Can anyone identify this inline 6?

Trying to figure out what engine this is:

Wow, that's an odd looking six! With the placement of weird stuff here and there I wouldn't be surprised if that was some sort of IH motor.

It looks like an old fomoco. I know on way to tell for sure... see if it will start.

I can tell you what it's not - it's not any of the "L6" engines. When used in that manner, "L" denotes a flat head engine - and they're just that. The cylinder head is a flat piece of cast iron, with a little machining done.

Can you find any casting numbers on the block? Or even on the head or intake? Assuming no parts mixmastering, I can probably run one of those three through my list and see what I can find. Some work has been done to it tho - I don't think the Delco SI alternator came around until the mid-1970's - so that's been replaced. Also, it may have been converted from 6V to 12V - but I'll know more once I run the numbers...

You beat me to it... I was going to say chevy but wanted to see the other side first...

I'm pretty sure its a chevy If it is it will have G M stamped on the intake or exaust manifold, its hard to tell from one picture
