Just got back from the new cabellas that opened off of RT78 here in Hamburg Pa. All I can say is WOW, knock your socks off. Mall sized parking lot that was freaken almost fulll, took 10 min to find a space and then it was into the store. Two floors with a two story centerpiece of stuffed northamerican animals on a small mountain, african animals around a water hole, including a full size stuffed elephant, lions, hippos and cape buffalo in the african exhibit. Fabulous fresh water fish tank with several varieties of fish from sunny/bluegills to 5ft northern pike. There was also a *very nice* selection of guns including a SAA Colt 45 artillery model for a mere $8,500 bucks. Some browning A5's that were engraved and dressed to the hilt, almost enough to make me wish my name was bill gates and I owned microsoft, almost :D

Cool, sounds just like the one I went to in Nebraska....I think is where it was. Back then I think it was the 'headquarters' but since then I think they've opened up several stores of equal or greater size. That one you're talking about sounds like it could be one of those. I liked the white mountain goats they had on the little mountain thing. Looked sweet..... and I love goats.

Excellent place. A dude could go broke in there, eh? :D

Ever been to the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield Mo.? That place is HUGE. You can buy trucks, boats, eveything. It even has a museum with a copy of every B & C rack from each state, I thingk it had a zoo like area with elk, moose, etc. too.

I live about an hour and change from Bass Pro Shop's HQ in Springfield. When I moved to MO 13 years ago, it was big. It has tripled in size since then. Imagine a store with enough size and influence to get a city the size of Springfield, MO to move city streets to accommodate their expansions. Their newest expansion is the Wonders of Wildlife

I have not been to a Cabella's yet though they put one in KC not too long ago. Now they have put up Great Wolf Lodge next to it that incorporates its own indoor/outdoor water park. I'm thinking of taking my jeeper junior up there this winter.

Bones :skull1:

I'm envious, Rich. Been eagerly anticipating the opening since last winter when I first saw the signs along 78. Been a catalog buyer for years and their big store in Kearney, NE has been a regular stop for me on my trips west over the years.

Figures their grand opening was going to take place not soon enough for me to stock up on specials before Moab :( and right in the middle of my prep work to leave.

It's only an hour from me, but I've just got too many things to do before the trip. But, I expect it'll drain my wallet time after time after I get back.

BTW, local paper had an article about it and besides the BILLIONS of $ it is expected to generate for the local economy, since it is forecast to have 6 million visitors a year, it's not just a superstore, it immediately becomes Pennsylvania's number one tourist attraction!!!

To hell with semiconductors, invest in outdoor gear!

Word is we're getting aCabellas here in Northern Utah (Orem) soon. Apparently, the land has already been bought. Can't wait.

I've heard that rumor for years. Why don't you use some of your contacts and find out the real story. Or maybe you could threaten prosecution (not to be confused with prostitution) to get it opened in the next year. :D

Actually, I think threatening "Prostitution" would get me more info. :D
Just a pawn in a pit full of pawns. ;)
Shoot, you've heard about it for years and I just recently heard about it, you've got better contacts than I do.

A few years back when dad was in the hospital they had an article in the Salt Lake Tribune. It was just a little paragraph stating they wanted to build.

Oh well, it looks like the ball may finally be rolling. I used to really like shopping at the Sportsman's Warehouse down there. They opened a store in Boise and their prices are 20% higher. I hate going in there now, for 20% more money they better be following me with a basket, I can't even get someone's attention.

Later,
Lincoln

A friend of mine won shopping sprees through her job to Sportsman's in Utah. She went all sorts of overboard buying camping gear. I checked out the Sportsman's in Loveland CO and picked up a 48" Hi-Lift for $50...I think the 60" was the same price but couldn't justify it...
