CA Dog bite laws and bad owners.......need to vent a bit.....

I think you are going the wrong way about it. Animal control is weak sauce. Go whip your neighbors ass. That will fix the problem. I don't mean to sound like a tough guy... But sometimes it has to be done. I breed cl and xxl pitbulls. Never had a problem. All my dogs are gentle giants. If they aren't then I would take the necessary precautions to avoid things like this. Which your neighbor has failed to do.

You cant start your recommendation with this line I think you are going the wrong way about it and suggest this Go whip your neighbors ass

Why would he go from being the victim to being the suspect? File the complaints to the right dept, document everything, hire a good attorney and have your day in court. Done.

Brandon.....If you are reading this, this happened 10 minutes after you left my place.

Dude I'm so sorry to hear about your son getting bit by such a big dog. That's crazy that the dog had gotten 3 chances to bight someone. Especially a young kid twice. Action NEEDS to be taken and someone one needs to be punished.
I got bite once and it hurts for a while; burns. Owner acted like it was not big deal but it burned for weeks. I wish i would of been 10 minutes late yesterday... maybe then the dog would of attacked me and not your little boy. It looked like you had two wonderful kids, hope your son gets well soon Kyle.

P.S. Thanks again for the dropped arm. It will work perfect. See you on the trails.

Im not saying march over there now and do it. But i would have done it when the incident happened. Sorry but 3rd time is a charm. The guys obviously has zero respect for you as a neighbor and completely disregards your family. I would have never let it go past the second time. If it were a small nip the first time that would have been the only warning. But a 3rd time... No way. Dogs are too powerful of an animal. It is the owners responsibility master the dog in a way that this type of thing doesnt happen. My dogs are very capable of causing alot of damage which is why i do everything i can to prevent this. If one of them were to bite someones kid i would expect to see a dad at my door. Sorry but that is my opinon on the matter. Nothing has been done this far so its your responsibility to as a father to protect your children by any means. Im am glad to hear that your kid is not hurt badly. German shepards and saint bernards are both very capable animals.

Put a collar that says JEEP on the dog. all your worries will be over because it wont leave the driveway and will run like crap.

Well, can't get to sleep because of this.

CA laws will not deem the animal vicious if there have not been 3 bites within a year. Animal control will only make them keep the animal indoors for 2 weeks.
Police don't give 2 shits.

I should have killed it on the spot.

The breed is Bermese Mountain Dog.

How serious is your kids injury?
Have you talked to your neighbor? What's is reaction?

Isn't That in typically a mild temperament breed? Makes you wonder if there is something wrong with the dog.

How about bite the dog back and show him how it feels, so he knows that it hurts and isn't nice?

Funny. Animal services took.the dog today for a 10 day quarantine.
Update in 10 days if anyone wants to know.

BTW. the owners deny that.the dog is aggressive, and truly believe it is just being playful.

Having had my hand bit threw by a dog that is bullshit. We got rid of my dog to the local Asian food place. (not really she's at my moms) but I now have a pit bull. If that dog nights any one she will be shot.

She does kinda gum if you leave your fingers out but that's a different story

"Being playful" is B.S. and out the door once someone is hurt. The big threshold in our situation was "broken skin"

Maybe you can voice your opinions to the animal control people and make sure they understand the history. I believe they have a fairly powerful say in the fate of the dog.

they took the dog in for quarantine because they need to see if any infection or disease shows up. if the dog proves to have rabies or ? they will probably put it down. after the 10 days the dog is returned. a small fine and a bill for shots, spay/neuter if the dog isn"t all ready.
now it is up to you to express your concerns and complaints to the animal control. drive down in person if you can and ask for the officer in the case and tell them you need to know if this dog has rabies or any other diseases right away. you are VERY concerned. this dog has a history.

If the dog has bit your son twice and insist the dog isn't dangerous, make sure they fully understand the seriousness of the situation, ie: if they don't do something to rectify this (pay medical bills and get rid of the dog), your relationship will suffer and you'll be forced to sue which will be much more expensive and the dog will still be dead.

seriously, beat the s#it out of the neighbor. who cares about a dog. dogs bite. they are in fact animals. not the dogs fault. they do not have reasoning skills. neighbors fault. he has reasoning skills. beat him. 2x. seriously. then state that you are not dangerous. you're just playful.

and for those of you who say violence never solves anything, you dont understand the dynamics of conflict resolution.

I still think you should bite the dog back so it can see that it hurts/isn't nice!

Edit: If you don't want hair in your mouth use a piece of plastic wrap.
