Buying a trailer help

Ok very new to trailers so I need some info.

The one I am buying is in NY I am in NJ and the person selling it has the title. Will I be safe pulling this thing home with title in hand but no plate on the trailer??

i dont know what the state law is out there but here in cali you cant but what u can do is hit the dmv and get a one day permit to transport... its cheaper then a ticket

Yep. Call your local DMV and explain what you are doing and see if they will sell you a trip permit to take with you to pick up the trailer--no title, they may not. If they won't you will have to get the permit in NY--so if NJ won't you should call the nearest NY DMV office to make sure of what you will need to have to get a permit there.
