Building another 12 Gauge

I'm think about getting a new shotgun. The old one was a Mossberg 500A tactical used for home defense and work (armored truck) I'm thinking about building a similar Mossberg 590, but then ran across the SAIGA 12. Its a Russian 12G semi-auto used by the Russian military. Has anyone here had any experience with one of these? I don't really know too much about it and don't want to get myself into something ill regret. If it has some major flaws ill just go with the 590. Thanks

Do you have pics of your old gun? Sounds cool.
Id stick with the 590 simply because it does the same basic job of being a shotgun. If you want a semi auto shotgun id still get American stuff. Easier to work on and buy parts for.

I picked up one years ago for $200 from CDNN, Those days are gone, Now $500+ seems to be the price.
It kicks mildly & has been very reliable, If i lived in a state without a Ban I would convert it to a folding stocked/Pistol gripped shotgun in a heartbeat.
Try Saiga12.com for more info.

Saigas are very good. The only real problem with them is the magazines are hard to come by, and when you do find them, they tend to be pretty expensive.

how good is that mossberg 500? i just bought one and i get to pick it up next sunday. i cant wait to mod it out! i may have to buy another shotgun before obama bans everything, ammo is already scarce in my town, i went to 5 different stores and none of them had 40 caliber S&W rounds one had a brick of 22 but only in the 325 box for way to much, but shotgun rounds are still plentiful... i'd go with mossberg simply cuz it will have plenty of options to build off of

No kidding!! My local sporting goods/hunting store (Gander Mountain) has been bone dry in all the popular calibers since Obama got elected. The store owner said that within 3 hours of getting a new shipment, all 9mm .40, and .45 ammo was completely cleaned out!! Thats supposed to last two weeks!!!

That seems par across the country; it's the exact same thing here in NC. On another note, there was some of everything at the gun show 2 weeks ago, just not to many primers to be had. I was the 12th in line and made my way directly to the reloader guy first.

yanno if we go into a depression and people start trying to steal and stuff, theres gonna be alot of gun owners with tons of ammo lol. so far i only have 500 rounds for my .17HMR maybe a 550 brick for my .22 and 200 of 7.5 shot for a shotgun i dont have in my possession yet. and less than a 100 rounds for my 40 =/ dang wal mart being outta ammo!

the saiga's are awesome but i would stick with the mossy or a remy,i just got done doing up a mossy 500,hogue overmould stock set, youth size,20"barrel,extended mag(8 shot)ghost ring sights, mesa tactical side shell carrier, oversize safety button and then had the whole gun dura coated titanium grey, these things are idiot proof, but the saigia is still based on the ak running gear so its pretty reliable in its own,but

Another vote for a Saiga with a nice pistol grip conversion. Mine runs like a top and is a seriously fun range gun, along with it's normal home defense duty. High cap mags run in the $45 range and can be found easily if you know where to look. Only drawback is you are limited to 2 3/4" and 3" shells.
