Build thread: Out of Misery, again...

the walker isn't terrible in the MJ. It was cheap.

Would probably be a lot better if it wasn't clamped straight to the cat and had a tail pipe.

Sometimes I enjoy the crackle on a downshift though, and generally being annoying to my neighbors.

Fused the amps. The biggest maxi I had was a 50a. It doesn't seem to need more, it still is loud.

My 40" bar draws 17 amps. I didn't realize that the 20" bar only drew 8 or 9 amps. I had a long run to the top of the jeep so I used 12 awg and a 40 amp relay with 30 amp fuse.

Got this done too.

With the Rock Hard cage you lose the use of your rearview mirror, so now I can keep an eye on my spare. :D

Piece of exhaust, 1/4" bolt, some 3m double stick and a few zip ties. Not going anywhere.

Also put a small led on the gate that is wired into the reverse lights.

The fuse will have no impact on the loudness of the system.

It is there simply to protect the wiring. A 50 amp fuse will support up to 650W of current- I'm referring to the current the amplifier needs to run, not the output it CLAIMS to make (most amps are vastly overrated in comparison to what they actually do in terms of making clean music, by way of rating them at higher levels of distortion).

What kind of amp are you running, where is it mounted, and what gauge cable are you using to power it?

EDIT: I see in the larger image that it's 2AWG, so that is certainly covered. I'd take care of the jacket on the left side, though- it's stripped back a bit far. Heatshrink or 3M electrical tape. Now I'll see if I can find where you mention the amplifier in this 63-page thread :wow:

He has two amps running off of that 2awg. One mono and one 4 channel. I'll try to find a pic.
The 2 is split into a 4 for each amp iirc.

Yes I found that as well. But '2 amps' tells us nothing relevant. I need to know the current draw, and also if he is branching anything else off of the 2awg feeder line.

Comes down to it, he's having no problems with the arrangement, it's properly fused, it's fine. They do make MUCH larger fuses in this form factor but this is not broke, so don't fix it.. Fuses are pretty much a binary set: they're either working or blown.. Adding a larger fuse will do nothing for him except make the truck more apt to burn if there's a short downstream of the fuse.

Nothing to see there, enjoy your work!
