Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas of Myra, a 4th century Greek bishop.Santa's a real Christian fellow, isn't he? A dwarf with magical powers who has flying reindeer and puts gifts under a tree that didn't grow where the savior was born, and comes from a land no one can go visit? I think I read about him in the Bible...
It's a holiday that got accepted by the world for the most part. Till recently non Christians had no problem celebrating Christmas for the spirit of it without being religous. It wasn't till last few years that folks got all uptight about it being called Xmas rather then Holidays......Christmas is no longer a Christian holiday in the conventional sense. It never really was, but it's less so now. Enjoy it for what it is- being glad your friends and family survived another year. Spend time with them, enjoy your traditions- but don't whine about it.
So I say if one does not want to celebrate Xmas, fine... but keep in mind that Santa Claus comes as part of the package. Picking and choosing the "convenient" portions is well..... BS.
