Boulder Carnage

A little correction on the directions. Turn left on Hwy 36. It's the traffic light just after the big thing (tube) that goes over Hwy 66 that carries oar to the cement plant. Hwy 7 is through Lyons and goes up the South St. Vrain Canyon. I might be able to meet you there. When will your group be getting to the canyon?

Thanks! We won't be leaving Cheyenne till 8:00 so that should put us there around 9:30-9:45. If you know of a good spot to meet let me know.

I was with two other guys in Samurai's - both on 31's like you had. One guy was locked and the other open. You sure could tell the difference. The locked Sammy was rolling right over things while the open one kept getting hung up.

You did the carnage portion in a stock XJ? Either my driving skills need some work or I'm too scared of hurting my rig (probably a lot of the latter and some of the former), because I figured a stock XJ wouldn't be able to handle it. With 2" of lift and 30s I was having some serious clearance issues.

I didn't take the stock XJ through carnage, just the rest of the trails. There are like 4 or 5 different trails in the Left Hand/Carnage system.

My last time through Carnage I busted a tail light, a front marker, rubbed 3 bumper caps off, and had some light body damage. There are 2 other trails that can be tough in that
group of trails. I don't get to excited about going on Carnage because of the time you have to wait for others ahead of you to get through. As for a place to meet up I'd say the Wal-Mart south lot on Hwy 66 just pass the second set of RR tracks before Main St. Hwy 287. I have a white 91 2dr. I can be there 9:30ish. There is a Subway shop in Wal-Mart if you need to pick up lunch but I don't know what time shop opens.

Sounds good, we'll see you there.

When we do carnage we always go up really early and miss alot of the heavy traffic getting up there and the mass rigs on the trail. Last time there were only two guys in front of us and they were a good 20 to 30 yards ahead of us most of the time. Other than at the end up at the top before coming back down we never had to wait on anyone. Now when we do get a bit of a later start then yes it can turn into a parking lot from time to time.

I wanted to leave earlier but one of the guys going works nights and so he has a hard time going to early.

We plan on going again in a couple weeks. Another guy with an XJ in our club wants to go but couldn't make it this weekend. We will definitely try to go earlier that time.

It was fun taking the Cheyenne Trail Crew guys through. Good people! We did Firemen Hill also and came out Castle Gulch. It took about 4 hours. What a nice day.
What happened to Boulder Carnage? I'd rate it as a 7 tops. I past the Water Fall without even realizing it was there. There are so many bypasses! Sure, you can play on some tough stuff but the trail hardly lives out to its former glory. With the right line you'd hardly spin a tire. Although I did wrestle with a few spots purely by choice. Oh well.

I should have gone, oh well.

The reason its no longer very "carnage" is the same reaon its been on the top of the close list. Too many people going off the trail and making those by-passes. Its a shame.

Yep it was a good time. Thanks again Rick for guiding us through. This was my first run in CO and my first time on rocks and I thoroughly enjoyed it. For those out there though that think you need a crazy built rig for this you no longer due. Im 2in on 30's and did rather well. Only damage was a smashed in cragar center cap. Thanks again Rick!
