you dont need a winch. spare parts always. i made it with my jeep no winch. i made it 80% of the way in 2wd. its how you drive it. my friend with 3" and sliders made it just fine not on tug

A winch! I heard it wasn't very difficult.
Of course I was told that I needed 35's and lockers to run Holy Cross. I made it with 33's, open on both ends and never got the strap. Excluding Cleveland rock of course.
I'll make it down to the Springs area one of these days.

Boulder Carnage isn't bad at all. I just ran it 4.5 lift 33s and open stock gears. Hell I ran it with bald 31 ats. Sure I had to take some easy lines and the rock rails got put to good use but I made it just fine. ONly bent a tie rod once on that trail.

I was at Carnage this past weekend with my rig - only 2", 30s, locked front, and made it just about up to the Waterfall before getting turned around by a broken down 'yota. That's not to say it was easy - I've got a nice dent in one of my rockers and lots of other scratches, gouges, etc. to show for it. I think I'll wait until I'm sitting higher before heading back there.

left hand / carnage are fun trails. there are actually 4 or 5 different ways through that whole trail system with some awesome views and good wheeling for stock and lifted vehicles. the carnage portion of it can be difficult and cause damage but nothing so bad that you need to worry much about breaking. basically a really fun challenge but w/o mutch butt puckering fear. i'm not going to make it to omaha this weekend after all, so if you guys still want to run up to boulder and do left hand / carnage let me know. its close enough for me to burn the gas to get to.

Nope, we didn't do Left Hand. We went up the canyon - the part the maps show in red as "Extreme".

ouch, sorry to hear about the body damage. i still want to do the trail though. last time i did the carnage portion was in a lifted samurai on 31's w/ a front locker. did all the others in a stock samurai and my 99 xj when it was stock.
there are some sweet 35's for 200$ in the classifieds. if i had the money i'd be all over them. want to buy my 32's so i can get them?

I was with two other guys in Samurai's - both on 31's like you had. One guy was locked and the other open. You sure could tell the difference. The locked Sammy was rolling right over things while the open one kept getting hung up.
You did the carnage portion in a stock XJ? Either my driving skills need some work or I'm too scared of hurting my rig (probably a lot of the latter and some of the former), because I figured a stock XJ wouldn't be able to handle it. With 2" of lift and 30s I was having some serious clearance issues.

You'll be fine @ Carnage... Take I25 South to HWY66 [North longmont exit] Continue west towards the mountains until you get to HWY 7, turn left [heading south] then look for Lefthand Canyon Rd. on your right in ~5-6miles. Travel up Lefthand and you'll see the trailhead on the right, can't miss it especially on a weekend.
Hit me up if you need anything else.

We ran it two years ago and some dude that didn't speak any english had an older stock XJ with 4 stock size tires like 225s that had 20% tread made it. It was nuts he beat the CRAP out of his rig and we kept telling him to turn around but he pushed on and on and we thought he left and turned around. We were at the top then up over the top he came. Never seen anything like it on carnage before in my life. the under part of his jeep was hammered but he made it.
