bored .040 engine questions

it cools that one spot more than the rest of the cylinder and causes uneven cooling and causes the cylinder to disform slightly due to the metal expanding different amounts. atleast thats what im imagining out of it :dunno:

maybe in certain areas, but the cylinder would measure out as more out of round than the others due to the different heat affected zones, so you would be more inclined to say it was more worn due to being further out of round
 
I just went thru the same deal with #6 piston leaving melt on cylinder wall. It didn't look too bad, but it took .040 to clean it up (started from std bore, now +.040). You are starting from +.040. Take that block in to a machinist and see if it is even salvageable before you spend dime one. Good luck.
