Block for a stroker - RENIX ok in later Jeep?

Hey gang,

I pulled the engine out of my '88 Comanche (blown) and am debating what to do with it.

The engine was overheated before I got it and it seemed to still run fine while it was cold but the cooling system is pooched (brown oil and coolant) so I'm thinking it is just a head gasket.

No rods through the block or anything like that. I haven't opened the engine to verify though.

I'm putting a ~160k mile '98 drivetrain in the Comanche and figured once it is all swapped, painted, sorted and stuff I'd do an engine rebuild/stroker the following year.

Can the RENIX block be used in a OBD-II Jeep for a stroker build?

Will the accessories bolt up?

Is it worth the bother or should I take it away for scrap?

I was thinking that since the RENIX block is supposed to have a higher nickel content than the ChryCo blocks it might be worth keeping around to build off it since it will wear harder/longer.

I don't want to storing this block for a more than a year if it isn't easily usable. I'd rather send it on to the wrecker now and get a bit of beer money back. :)

Thanks.

Don't you dare throw away that Renix block for scrap! Build that mutha up and give it a new lease of life.

I'd use it if I can... but if I can't no one is going to give me anything for it other than what it is worth in scrap.

Ooo I didn't know the Renix blocks were harder. That makes me like my renix even more.

Oh and the only difference with using obdII is the renix has a spot for a knock sensor. Though I thought I heard something about the flex plates being different but I may have been thinking of the 258

Just use your matching flexplate with the trans you are using.

So all my later accessories will bolt up to the RENIX block? It's a usable block for what I want to do?

Almost certain everything will bolt up, as long as block is not damaged then it should be good to go for stroker.

Awesome, thanks!

Yep higher nickel content the renix blocks are
The force is strong with them.

I've actually swapped a few renix motors into late models.
There are no bosses for the coil pack to mount to on the passenger side
The timing cover is different but easy enough to swap out
Obviously intake/exhaust/flex plate/accessories and brackets are different
The renix motor stock for stock has a bigger cam than the HO's
I took a renix bottom end re ringed, rods, and mained it threw a hesco 0331 replacement head on it and stuffed it in a 2001 here a few months ago. Runs like a raped ape....
