Blacked out hoods

I've been surfing and checking out everyone's different builds in preparation to build my XJ (take delivery of a 2001 steel blue Sport, aw4, nv242 tomorrow, woo-hoo!).

Some pretty neat stuff out there.

One thing I've noticed is that some of the older trucks, around 1990 or so have a matt black hood that seems to be a decal/sticker that covers just the raised portion of the hood - body color shows though the center groove.

Is this a factory decal?

Are they still available?

Are there cheaper/better aftermarket sources if it is OEM?

Thanks!

I don't think I've seen one of these.
Are you refering to the pre87 Cherokee Chief paint scheme?

Not sure - but that gives me something specific to google on - thanks.

Anyone else know more?

Trim-brite or 3M make a tape that comes in a variety of widths, from pin stripe to 24", it works well just clean the hood with a good cleaner and use what is called 'wetter water' which is basically a few drops of diswasher liquid soap and a gallon of water. It lets you slid the stuff around before you squegee it down.
