FYI, if you are wheeling the area ...
****
We have three events occuring on the Mountaintop District next week that I
wanted folks to be aware of.
#1 - A group called "Corona Stake Pioneer" will be doing a reenactment of
a Mormon trek, June 23-24-25. From the LDS church on North Shore,
they'll go up Van Dusen Cyn. road, then east on 3N16 and north on 3N05,
to camp the first night, just off 3N05. On day 2, they'll go west on
3N16, then south on 3N12. They'll camp the 2nd night just east of the
3N12/3N14 intersection. They are hoping for about 200 participants.
To reenact the trek some of the kids will be pulling wooden carts. They
are having portable toilets delivered to the camping sites. No wood or
charcoal fires.
We will be issuing a non-commercial group use permit for this event.
#2 - The Big Bear Trailriders will hold their annual dual-sport
motorcycle event, on June 25-26, across the Mountaintop District. The
furthest west point would be the Crab Flats area. They will be putting
some flagging out to mark the course on the Thursday or Friday before the
event. The sweep riders will take down all flagging at the event end.
They are looking for about 200 riders. I have the course maps, and would
be interested in some folks taking a look
(Greg H. , Rocco, Audrey, Robin ?) to see if there appears to be any
issues. They've changed their course somewhat in response to previous
complaints. They'll miss the erwin lake area entirely, and they've
flagged a special "slow down and be quiet" area down by Converse and 7
Oaks. This event is not under Forest Service permit.
#3 - Last , but not least, Team Big Bear will be holding their 3rd
mountain bike race of the season on forest roads on the south side of the
lake, on Saturday, June 25. Probably will have about 250-300 riders.
If you're out and about, and see anything of concern regarding these
events, please let me know.
