Also invest in a good lock, or expect that bike to be gone overnight.

Use the 50-pound rule. If your bike weighs 10# you need 40#s worth of chain and locks. 20# bike needs 30# of chains and locks. If your bike weighs 50# you can (and likely should) leave it on the corner unlocked.
