Best steering setup?

My 95 XJ is up about 8" and I'd like to drastically improve the stock steering. I thought about a drop pitman arm (I do run a SBB), but I'd rather go with some sort of hi-steer for my HP dana 30.

Any suggestions, and would a drop pitman arm suffice?

What's SBB??

Fab'ing over the knuckle steering isn't really that hard if you have some decent fab skills and a welder.

It's best to raise the trackbar at the axle end as well to eliminate bumpsteer, which is the hardest part. I removed the stock coil bucket and replaced it with an RE perch, then welded the trackbar bracketry to that. It's a lot thicker than the stock perch.

I did mine with all 5/8" hardware, the knuckles are drilled out to accept 5/8" bolts, and I used all right hand heims.

I've wheeled this setup with no problems for 2 years.

Notice how both of these have the draglink pushing directly on the steering knuckle. This eliminates the deadspot on inverted T type steering designs.

Mine is the inverted "T", as seen above, and I have no dead spot. I believe this is because the drag link comes in directly above the tie rod. I kinda expected to have that dead spot when I built it, but it didn't happen.

I can see you don't have misalignment washers on the knuckles. So the movement of the loints is very small.

Now that you mention it, I did have misalignment washers installed at first, and it did seem to move around a bit (not bad, but a little bit). The next time I had it apart, I took the washers out.

Good call....
