Best rack mount: raingutter or factory rail?

The rack cross bars tie into the baskets floor in 6 spots. The rain gutter mounts are appx. 4 " wide. if you install just the floor of the rack it will only sit about 1/2" above the factory roof rack. with the top part of the basket installed, it wll add about 5.5". if you have anyother questions you can call us at 800-777-0878 olympic 4x4

Thanks for the info. I meant to give you a call today, but my boss had this silly idea that I should do work. :)

Thanks, Erik. Our phone conversation was quite informative. I ordered the top hat from QT and am looking forward to getting the rack.

I think it's a matter of preference. I opted to mount on the stock rack to keep it from hitting trees that come close to the sides when leaning.
Carefull not to pull the rails out of the roof though....

fergie, are those ABS plastic or just texture coated?

rO
I'll assume you mean the moutns from Yakima. The main part is ABS, while other parts, like the clamp, is metal, and so is the lock core area.

Fergie
