Best offset on rims for XJ's

What is the best offset??
I'm asking because I have heard of tire shops giving the wrong offsets and guys hitting their body or control arms.... :dunno:

3.75 is backspacing, not offset.

What width rim do you have in mind? The correct answer depends on knowing the rim width.

around a 3.75 BS witha 8in wheel works for most but most anything will rub the control arms. You may still rub in some areas still.
