I don't believe that I have ever seen a thread regarding this item so here goes.

Post up what brand of oil/oils you use, the viscosity, the reason on why you use it over another as well as what type of rig/vehicle/motorcycle/lawnmower/golfcart/etc. that you run it in.

i.e I use Mobil 20W/50 for my straight six mostly because it has 170,000 miles and it runs better oil pressure with Mobil than with any of the others at Kragens/Autozone.

My brother recently got sponsered by Amsoil and he runs it in everything in his 2008 HD Silverado Duramax with the Allison 6 speed. Also runs it in his Ducati which is mostly a track bike. I might be switching over to Amsoil due to the cheaper prices now avaible.

WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING WITH?

.

For the Jeep, whatever oil is cheaper at the time I go to the store usually. AutoZone always has deals to buy 5qts of oil and a filter for like $20. Most of the time I'm getting Quaker State or Pennzoil high mileage oil, 5W30.

On my supercharged mustangs, I always ran Ford Motorcraft conventional oil or synthetic blend because it supposedly had less blow-by than full syn oil.

My BMW takes whatever oil BMW recommends, but the change intervals are like 15k miles and the warranty took care of them both. I'll still buy the BMW oil when I change it next. I think it's some high dollar Quaker State oil.

Any other car I've had, I put in a nice synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or Quaker State Q.

Whatever is on sale at WalMart.

Fluid Change Intervals are more important than the brand name.

Amsoil in everything I own!

X2!

However, I just wish the oil manufacturers would sell a 6 quart bottle instead of me having to buy a 5 and a 1. I have 3 Jeeps, an XJ, a ZJ, and a WJ. They all take 6 qts. They also all use the same filter too, so it is pretty easy to remember what is what!!

I'd say that the best ones are like Royal Purple, Amsoil, and a few others that you've never heard of. I was researching this topic a while back, and the main website I read said that you can pretty much usually go with the ones that you don't hear much about. More or less they spend the money they should be putting into quality into advertising instead.

That being said, I usually run either valvoline or Castrol high mileage synthetic blend, which ever is on sale. Pennzoil and Quaker state are the same and they have a high parafin wax content (at least they did, they may have changed their formula by now, I don' t know). If you wanna use them, all I can say is change it often and change it hot. I also found that if you ask the right guy at teh parts houses he'll be able to tell you who makes their store brand oil. For instance: Napa brand oil is made by Valvoline.

But, as was said before, the change interval is more important than what goes in it.

people cling to high end motor oils because of some straight retarded shit.
racers use high end oil because they 1) have race engines and 2) get paid to.

i cant help but be reminded of the scene from idiocracy about brawndo....
'but it's got what engines crave!' 'its got electrolytes!'

its a jeep, anything but poo will work fine. if you cant tell the differance between a loose tolerance 4.0, and high end race engines, you deserve to pay $6+ a quart like the rest of the retards.

Dont knock what you dont understand,I was selling Mobil-1 36yrs ago! In 40 yrs of engine building, building off-road transmissions, and racing almost everything on the planet,I can guaranty you there is a difference. Are synthetics suitable for used equipment, probably not for engines but for gear driven items its perfect!

mobil 1 rounded off my cam in a month, not good for flat tappet engines, now I run nothing but 10w40 Castrol High Mileage
I extremely doubt that! Not to say your cam didnt fail but.......

I run Rotella T6 and am happy with it. Otherwise, would just use Valvoline.

I use Amsoil in everything (mostly, on occasion if I NEED it done asap and do not have time to wait.) I'll pick up some Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra (only Pennzoil worth a damn) if I need it locally and its on sale.
I mostly run 10w-40 Amsoil AMO (high zddp content) in the crankcase, Amsoil SevereGear 75w-110 in both diffs, Amsoil Universal ATF in trans and T-case. To be a preferred member with Amsoil, is less than half the price of a Costco membership per year. Definitely worth it. You get the wholesale prices that dealers do.

For those that are complaining about 5qt containers. Get a 5qt jug, and a qt of MMO. Yes, still an "extra" qt. but works good.

WOW!!!!

go cheap if money is an issue. if having top of the line price tags makes you feel better, go with that. my thoughts are that it is all made with the same minimum standard or else it wouldnt be on the shelf. regular checking and maintenance is far better than spending big coin IMHO.

Our Jeep engines callm for an SL rated oil, it has the higher zinc content, and about the only one Ive found with the SL rating is Mobil-1 High milage, so I started using that in the Jeep. At almost 350,000 miles I havent noticed any issues by changing to full synth, It leaked before, and it still leaks, but it isnt any worse than before, and the engine is running great. I use Castrol Edge in my Tucson, and Castrol full synth 5w50 in my Accent, and when I had air cooled VW's, I used Valvoline Racing 50W, and my Buell gets 20w50 full synth from either Harley, or Mobil.
