best grease for U joints etc

The dark lithium stuff that comes in the cartridges for grease guns is fine.

1) What is the best type of grease for U joints etc., or doesn't it matter

Yeah, I have the same question. I am about to replace my front axle shaft ujoints with precision greasable ones and was gonna buy a grease gun. They are already pre-greased but I was wondering if its okay to use the lithium that comes with the gun or go with full-synthetic or with a silicon based grease (not sure if synthetic and silicon are that different)? I was thinking the silicon would be good since it repels water extremely well but didn't know if ujoints got hot enough to where silicon wouldnt be a good choice due to the temp.

this will probably sound stupid but when greaseing ujoints do u more or less estimate or squeeze enogh in there to where you see grease coming out the rubber boots slightly?

I think all the grease is the same! I tend to go with the middle of the road price wise. Lucas usually has good pricing at autozone, usually get the red, but this time I picked up some heavy duty green stuff.

I recommend the lucas grease gun sold at Home Depot. It really is fantastic and has held up to multiple grease tube changes. Stay away from the mini chrome grease guns from autzone. The grease runs out to fast, its messy as hell, and it just plain falls apart.

$8.40 cardboard box that they ship 'em in anyway?? sounds good to me...

I had to ask them about the pricing and heres their response, I got the reply in under 10 hours too which is pretty awesome.

Thank you for your inquiry and question. Yes, you are correct that the $19.95 is a special internet price and many of our customers order
(4) of the 3-14oz. vs the 10-14oz. because of the special pricing you can only get when you order through our secure web site. You would
also receive the yellow and green shop towels. We look forward to receiving your order!

Thanks,

I've been using Lucas "red and Tacky" for a couple years now.. I really like it alot.. and it's very tacky! can be purchased at most local Carquest stores, and probably many others but i buy it from CQ.

I use whatever I can find that fit the grease gun I'm holding at the moment. Usually that means the red tacky stuff that Harbor Freight sells in the foot-long tubes, since I got tired of swapping grease tubes on my small grease gun.

I use the high pressure red grease that I lube the equipment at work with. the price and availability is right up my alley. Sta-Bil brand I think is what it is.

I've been in the market for a new grease gun I thought about springing for their pro kit but 70 bucks ouch. I could use everything in that kit but man that seems steep.

Autozone in my area carries the 14 oz tube for $7.99, but I don't mind paying a little more for grease that lasts about 4 times longer than other "quality" greases. This stuff is PERSISTENT!

Their audio blurb on the website says "lasts up to 8 times longer", I don't know about that but it sure as hell stays in there a long time.

I like to fill 'em 'til I see a bit o' grease coming out of the boots. Make sure to wipe up any excess so it doesn't fling out and get on yer discs.
