beefy new D44 dif cover for free

I was up at my buddy AJ's salvage yard and found this

so we marked it and AJ went to work with the torch

after the torch

showing the beef

after grinding and waiting for the paint ro dry

finished product installed. No more worries about cover peelback and the fill plug is higher. Total cost 3 sawzall blades a grinding wheel longer bolts and a can of paint.

so what were those holes holding? obviosly they weren't holding the cover on since it was part of the housing...

It is 1/4" thick everywhere. The big ugly piece we started with is part of a twin beam front axle assembly from a F150 or bronco sort of a hybrid between a solid axle and IFS. not sure what year.

the holes are used to hold the "cover" portion of the housing tight to the center section so it can be sealed properly.
