Battery Woes

I hate my battery, It wont hold a charge. I went outside this morning to drive the Jeep and nothing! I had to catch a ride to work. I drove it the week right before Christmas as my dd so I know the battery was charged. Even before I did my alternator swap I was having this issue with this battery. Tim and I tried everything we could to get this thing to test bad but couldn't get the damn thing to.

I don't know what to do next I guess Im just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Either that or just do the Dual battery setup I have always wanted. Either way I still need a better battery. Any suggestions?

Go to O'Reilly's and get a 9A78DT AGM battery Super Start Extreme or get a Deka Intimidator that uses the same part number. Great batteries made in the USA. I've run them for years and so has High2by.

Get a battery..hehe
get a waterless battery. my optima has been running strong since 2004. Im even amazed it still cranks the jeep every morning. I left the jeep alone for 2 months.. and it cranked up.
It just doesnt want to die!!!

my money is on a parasitic drain-- if it repeatedly tests good and worked fine as a DD but had no life after sitting for a week, it sounds as though something is pulling juice out of it when it sits. Charge it and test it again-- if it tests good start looking for the drain. In the meantime, disconnect the negative cable if you're gonna let it sit.

Battery come from Advance? When I worked at O'Reilly's it didn't matter if it was bad or not. If it wouldn't hold a charge there was nothing they could do. They'd have to pro-rate it for a new one... If that doesn't work, call and complain to corporate. I've done it many times. They always cooperate after that. :)

doesn't solve the problem, but it will make you feel good, right?

whats the normal amount of drain from a battery?

What do you mean? Of course it solves the problem. They swap out the battery with one that will hold a charge.

When you carry a battery into an autoparts store it's always the salesmans opinion wether or not to change out the battery. No matter what the tester says. All of those testers are BS anyways.

Unless they have a dick manager then they'll swap it out... You just have to convince them that it's their battey that's the problem.

I think what Shorty is saying is the battery many times is NOT the problem but something else is. Of course it is easiest to swap a battery but if it doesn't solve the problem, it isn't doing anyone any good.

A battery stores energy, plain and simple. It doesn't lose it on it own and doesn't generate it either.

Unless they have a dick manager then they'll swap it out...or unless they truly want to help you fix the problem-- then they'll help you find out what else could be the cause You just have to convince them that it's their battey that's the problem.

I wholeheartedly agree that in the absence of other factors a battery may solve the problem, but just because it's not holding a charge doesn't condemn it.

No pissing contest intended, just trying to help:peace:

oh, I agree, It not always going to be the battery. I've just found that in most cases the individual behind the parts counter couldn't care less what the actual problem is. They just want to make a sale. If they deny your battery exchange they get to sell you a new one at full price.

You end up trouble shooting for yourself and, 9 times out of 10, the battery is where I usually start.

You can't trust the testers. They use horrible logic. Of course the tester isn't going to charge and drain a battery in 3 minutes.

And ya lost me on the Gratuitous assertions line there. Please use smaller words. I confuse easily. :D

Thanks for the help guys so i guess I should buy a multimeter and just run around and check all of my accessories after I charge the battery and have the jeep turned off?

Whats a good multimeter I should get?

The lowes/RadioShack $30 meters work. Usually the cheaper ones will last longer than the "upgraded" ones they sell. I do have to say, the Snap-on meter I got a couple months ago has been amazing, way more accurate and easier to use. If you can swing the higher price tag... It's worth it.

Fluke makes some damn good meters. Granted, they'll most likely break the bank but as far as I'm concerned it's the best one on the market.

If you use it A LOT then it's worth it.
