Battery Question

What you said in your first post was "I must have left the turn indicator on or something". That statement alone confused me as the turn signal lights wouldn't drain the battery unless the key was left in the on (run) position as well.

People here are trying to give you helpful advice to solve the mystery of why your batteries (two of them) went dead and "appear" not to take a charge. You keep posting hypothetical questions and want an absolute (yes or no) answer. Well, the questions you were asking don't have yes or no answers that are correct in all circumstances.

Sheesh!

Yes - I sure appreciate that Flyfisher. That's WHY I apologized for not making my initial question more clear. I was a bit overly shy on that point perhaps.

I wasn't looking for the reason for the drainage - but I was simply asking whether it would be wise to try to recharge the brand new battery - or - if that was an idiotic thing to do since all new batteries won't ever recharge once they are drained. get it? thanks for your help in arbitrating and trying to understand.

Yes - actually BOTH questions were deliberately made super simple so a yes/no answer could be given.

to reiterate:

QUESTION ONE: DOES DRAINING A BRAND NEW BATTERY ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS KILL IT? (YES OR NO)

The answer - as supplied by a forum member - was 'NO'. So I thanked them.

QUESTION TWO: DOES THE FACT THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR HEADLIGHTS TO BURN WITH A DEAD BATTERY A GOOD SIGN YOUR ALTERNATOR IS HEALTHY (YES OR NO)

The answer here I had to source somewhere else - is 'YES'.

so maybe we can add these to the FAQs as general diagnostic principles.

The 'counterintuitive' comment was ONLY meant to address a misunderstanding in each case. (i.e. 'why diagnose a MYSTERY DRAIN somewhere when it was already explained that the lights were left on?' - i dont' get it)

My suggestion for troubleshooting a drain is basic Electrical 101. It's not a "MYSTERY DRAIN," and we're just trying to help solve YOUR problem for free, with the limited information you provided.
