Battery advice - 89 XJ LTD

I apologize in advance as I'm sure this topic has probably been beaten to death - I did some searching but I couldn't find what I'm looking for.

The current battery in my 89 XJ LTD is about 6 years old and due for a replacement soon. The one that I have, I purchased from Costco (I think it was about $80)based on the largest one that would fit and I don't have any complaints but I thought I would ask for some battery advice to see what others are recommending. I know in the Motorcycle world, AGM is the way to go but I haven't seen those for cars - maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place?

The XJ is just an occasional driver for me - I'm not doing any extensive 4 wheeling or don't run any power hungry accessories. I would like something with more CCA, the motor just doesn't turn over like it used to but I suppose that's a reflection that either I need new new starter cabling or a Solenoid or I need to refurbish my starter. One of these days.....

Thanks for any advice.

A new battery wont help start quicker/more aggressively, if your bottleneck is currently your wiring, which, if you have stock wiring.... IT IS.

Hi XCM:

Thanks for your note. I understand; but I need, or will need, a new battery soon in any case.

Does anyone make a starter cabling upgrade kit specifically for an 89 XJ?

I recommend a Optima Red or Yellow top battery. I have been running them for years and they have never let me down. The yellow top in my 93 XJ is also six years old and a recent battery load test showed it was at 95% of a new battery. And I run lots of accessories and have a 8K electric winch. But the good part is they are a 10 year battery. The only one better is an Odessey batter with a 20 year life. Thats what is in most military service vehicles.
