I was driving home last night - drove about 45 minutes in heavy rain. At a stop sign, I came to a complete stop (obviously), and then started to go again, but the Cherokee was VERY sluggish.
I stopped again, and tried to go, and it did the same thing. I'm 90% sure that the AW4 was bypassing 1st and 2nd, and starting in 3rd or OD.
I pulled over, and poked my head under the Jeep in the off chance that there was some visible sign of tranny failure. No dice. I got back in the Jeep, shifted into a few different gears, and then everything seemed to be A-OK.
That was the first and last time I experienced the anomoly. I checked fluid only a week before, and everything seemed copasetic.
Weird.
At this point, I'm wondering if I imagined it. Anyone have any idea what could be going down? (96 XJ 4.0L, AW4, 103k)
