AW4 in a wrangler

my buddy has a TJ. since the XJ has overdrive and the YJ/TJ doesn't, would the AW4 work in the wrangler? has this been done?

I've made manual shifters for a number of people with CJs, TJs, and YJs that want the AW4 without having to do all the electronics swap like Stu did. In fact Stu contacted me a few days back and will be installing and reviewing one of my shifters soon.
