Aussie Lockers

After watching this weekends escapades I want to lock my truck... quickly !

I was planning on just doing it at axle swap time. However, looking around I can get the Aussie locker for the D30 and D35 reasonably inexpensive compared to like ARB. When I do upgrade I would not take a real big hit on selling them.

Who may have experience with them and what are the Pro's and Con's?

Thanks!

I'm running an Aussie in my D30 and a PowerTrax No-Slip in my 8.25.

The Aussie has been an excellent piece of hardware and I honestly wouldn't trade it for anything. The biggest complaints I've heard about auto-lockers is they can be noisy and they take a bit of adjustment in your driving style as they tend to lock up when you goose the accelerator on pavement, making your vehicle pull back to straight line. But mine have been nearly silent and the driving thing isn't a big deal. The only real complaint is that if you take it out on icy roads, it's SCARY. The lockers will engage constantly and you'll definitely have to drive more carefully. Other than that, I whole-heartedly endorse them.

Pros:
Easy to Install
Cheap
Very Quiet

Cons:
Auto-Lockers make a vehicle unstable on slick pavement

Does the "scary on ice" include the front too when in 2wd? I would think no since there is no force being applied to the shaft.....thats what she said

I have been waiting on that line.

I have the disco front axle so I dont' really need to worry about it locking up. I have the "OK" from the wife to get a locker... just need the money now.

Hah. No, it shouldn't be an issue with a front-only install in 2WD. But holy CRAP is it scary with the rear locked. I took it to work one day after it iced up thinking "better traction!" without considering the impact of the lockers. Lets just say that 635 on ice during rush hour meant I had a damn good grip on the seat and both hands on the wheel.

I am thinking about putting an auto locker in my 98 XJ. I understand the issues on ice. Would this also be the same problem on muddy off-camber trails? I do a lot of hunting in the mountains and I want something that will give me more traction, not less.
