Audio wiring question??

I have another car that would like a sterreo upgrade. Only really room for a set of 6.75"s and a set of tweeters. Planning on a component setup without an amp.

Question is this, If I run front and rear channels to the same speaker, will it effectively give me double the power to that speaker. Speakers would be rated for 210watts. Head unit is 50x4....or 100x2 the way I hope to wire it.

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Thanks.

I've never heard of anyone doing that before, I'd like to know how it works out lol. I have a feeling it could damage the amp circuit in the head unit if the signals backfeed through the wires.

A 50w per channel head unit and some decent component speakers will get nice and loud. I run an alpine that pushes 50x4 to some kenwood coaxial 6.5's and it's plenty loud and sounds pretty clean for not having an amp pushing the speakers. Is that 210w rating peak power or RMS? As long as you are within 100 watts of the RMS rating they'll still sound pretty good, below that though and they will start to sound flat.

Okay, so heres the plan. These are the speakers I would like to run. Head unit is a pioneer 50x4 max. Will one channel be enough to drive these speakers then? Going in a Miata, so I may decide to add a second set of the same speakers in the package tray later, but for now it will just be one pair in the doors.

RMS is listed at 10-100watts

what do you mean one channel? hook em up normally. i have those speakers in my jeep powered by just the kenwood deck (albeit it is a nasty deck...) and they sound great.

10-4, I meant one channel per speaker. Normal, yes.

Thanks.

werd. theyre def the best speakers you can buy at that price point. my infinity kappas in my old jeep were a tad clearer, but couldnt take the abuse of being in a jeep.. and succumbed to the elements. the polks are marine rated = win.

Yep, one of the influencing factors for miata use...top down equals sun exposure.
