not sure if im posting in the right location but im looking to install a new system the cracked roof speakers are getting to me and im not up on what are great components im looking at subs an im not sure what to get. this looked like a great choice to me any opinions? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kenwood...ofer/9231574.p?id=1218063832074&skuId=9231574

also i need some suggestions on speakers and any recommendations on head units?

i have an amp for the sub and not sure what amp i going to get for the speakers.

i don't want to spend a fortune on this but i don't want crap!
 
Best buy = fail. There is/was (not sure which) a pretty good deal on speakers from amazon. Are you replacing the front door speakers as well? I might have a 4x50w amp for sale. I'll have to dig thru boxes to see if I still have it.
Kenwood is marginal at best. I would say Polk Audio, Boston Acoustic, Alpine, Focal are going to be your best bet. crutchfield.com also has some pretty good deals usually.
 
i picked up a couple pairs of kenwood 3 ways for my DD car a couple weeks ago with a best buy gift cert i got for xmas. they sound pretty decent now that I have crossovers on them to keep the lows from going through them, they don't handle lows at all. thats what the 12 in the trunk is for :D for $49 a pair i'm actually pretty happy with them. thought they sounded like crap before I dialed the crossovers in, but now they are loud, and the sound is clear and crisp. i have everything below 80hz blocked.
 
I go to Best Buy (and when they were in business Circuit City and Good Guys) and browse the open box car audio items.

You get some decent deals that way.

First off What kind of power is your amp pushing, Peak RMS? then go from there and match up a sub, Kenwood is alright on there subs, but for $120 there are subs out there much more capable, and better for the money.

Next up speakers... The stock XJ uses 5.25 speakers and granted they work there alright, now the best bet is to go and get a nice set of 6.5 components, its fairly easy to make them fit, just a little bit of trimming. The sound from the 6.5 will always blow 5.25 out of the water so thats just a thought.
For the Front get a set of 6.5 Components (mid range, tweeter, and crossover) i have that setup and i love it! for the rear just go for a regular 6.5 or a 3 way 6.5 in the sound bar or hatch.

Headunits... I have owned a couple good and bad headunits. I will start off with the good. Alpine by far is my favorite, best sound, but more pricey. I currently have a sony and its alright if i did it again i would never buy another sony headunit. Pioneer and Kenwood make good headunits for the money.

Another thing to keep in mind are wiring, RCA's and sound deadning, Try to keep the wiring at a high grade speaker wire for the best sound (Never run speaker wire next to a power cable) RCA's make sure they are a good brand. I started off with some cheap RCA's from fry's and i thought they were good, until i found some Monster 404 RCA's on sale and man it made my sub hit and sound 30x better, well worth the $25. And next sound deadning, there are alot of ways of doing this. the expensive way is dynomat (ripoff) second skin, etcc.. I just went to home depot bought me 4 rolls of peal and seal and 50% of my XJ is nice and quiet, it really does help especially in a jeep.


For my system in the XJ i have this
Sony headunit, HF 6.5 components (front), HF 6.5 3-way (Rear). Alpine 350rms Class D amp, JBL P1024 sub, monster RCA's

I have put alot of time into dialing and setting up my system on the cheap so far my running total for everything is $490, keep in mind that i still dont have a 4 channel amp for the speakers.

For a deck I would say Blaupunkt, Pioneer/Premier, Kenwood Excelon .. in that order.
 
well this is the head unit i went with

installed it over the weekend now i need to look into the speakers i will do the sub later as i want to build a box and im not sure where it is going to go. i have a couple of 6.5 pioneers in the rear ceiling that i have had since 06 and if i crank it up the bass distorts them so i think im going to replace them unless there is a way i can cut out the lows. does any one know what i could do also i do want components but im not sure if they are in my price range. any suggestions on a low cost decent component?
 
also the front drivers speaker is completely dead and the passenger cuts out when the door opens i know this is a common issue with Cherokees what have people done to correct/prevent this issue? can i just clip the wire inside the cabin and run new wire out to the speakers?
 
well i got 4 kenwood 2ways. i could not justify the cash for components. i could not tell the difference between 2ways, 3ways, 4ways or components. installed the rear last night they sound so much crisper then the old 2ways i had in there.
so tonight im hoping to have the front speakers rewired and in
then i need to plan out the sub enclosure.

i have an older rockford fosgate punch 400x4 amp. can i run a rca from the headunit to one side of the amp (front or rear inputs) and bridge the right and left output screws to one sub? and is that 800w?
 
No. Check RF's website to see if that amp is even bridgable. It won't be 800W and I doubt you will even see 50W per channel.

Study up on Ohm's law and I'll help you design a box. You have a specific sub in mind?
 
no i was lookin at building the box under the rear bench but last night i chalked it up to being to small. i was thinking about modin the rear bench to raise the height of the space but i don't think its worth the time. so im going to do something like the stealth box. im thinking a sealed box. and untill i figure out what amp im getting im not even looking into subs yet

like you stated about the amp it does not look promising. so if i have to get an amp, its coming out of the money i have to spend on a sub

any sugestions on a decent sub amp combo?
 
 
OK so my amp can be bridged im searching for a manual but not getting anywhere.

in the 2 channel one sub list under 1dvc 4ohm sub

now this shows the 2 voice coils bridged running off a 2ch amp bridged to run the a 4ohm sub needing 2ohm

after bridging mine im going to have 2 200w 4ohm channels but i only have room for 1 sub so if i get a 4ohm dvc sub

my idea not sure if it will work out but the split the rca coming from the head unit and run it into the two channels so it will be the same signal on both channels to run a 4ohm dvc sub. just an idea i want to see if i can use the whole amp instead of one side. im not even sure if dvc subs have separate connections for the coils
