Hey guys, dong some research for a friend, what are some nice areas to live in Houston......safe for raising kids, that type of stuff.....

Zip is 77063...I do not know the area.....so I dont know where about that is..want to be close to work though

i think that is going to be the galleria area (610 west loop and westheimer ) i cant think of anything nice in the immediate area, for a family that is. there are some decent neighborhoods near by but being that close to the downtown area it will be expensive. i know one thing for sure, stay away from the south west side of town. it is on a rapid decline. if you or they have any questions feel free to pm me. i also have a friend that is a real estate broker if they need help there.

Agreed, i work for Sprint wireless on the cell sites. Ive been down there a few times and had guys in baggy pants with bulldogs on chains try to step up to me.
I refuse to work on sites in that area anymore. ESPECIALLY after dark.
A lot of people that work n Houston commute. Part of life :(
Going east its Baytown/ Pasadena, West is Katy, its got the harshest traffic because its expanding rapidly. North is the woodlands. The last two are nice, in demand and therefore the priciest, usually. Southound (Gulf Freeway) You could look for Clear Lake/Webster/Friendswood area. Its good for most of it.Friendswood has hit and miss but is still a good place to live. Theres expansion down here in Texas City but i gather you dont want to live that far. Might as well get a beach house. Pearland has a nice smallish town feel i wanted to buy in if i werent moving to Oklahoma.

if he's really a friend, tell him to find another job somewhere else. i would NEVER move back there. i consider houston the seventh realm of hell. when we lived there (my wife is from there), i worked on the 23rd floor in the galleria and when the sun would come up in the morning, there was a dark brown haze that hung over the city. it's basically because of all of the chemical plants and refineries that are just outside of the city. every few months, there would be a "situation" where you had to seal up the house, shut off the air and hold your breath for two hours to make sure you don't inhale the fumes. if he must go to texas, tell him to get transfered to austin or san antonio or even dallas/ft worth (not as nice as the first two, but...).

however, since that wasn't your question, that zip is sw of downtown (basically 59 & the beltway). I would look either up near jersey village (290 & the beltway area) or down past sugarland/missouri city. i used to live in atascosita near humble, which is really nice & affordable, but that commute through downtown on 59 would make him want to shoot someone (maybe even himself).

LOL on shooting himself. He doesn't have much choice, it has to be Houston (that is where the opportunity is). He's looking for a house preferably new, 180k to 250k with a close commute (30 min)

Keep the info coming.

for 250 he could find a new town house or older remodeled home in the heights area west of down town. i live on the north side in the woodlands and work down town. it takes me about 30 minutes to get down town in the morning. i leave between 5:00 and 5:30 am and dont come back till the following morning around 6:30 or 7:00, so im going the opposite direction as the traffic. i think if he looked in the woodlands he would like it. there is plenty to do here and it is a self sufficient area. all the shopping, entertainment, etc. you need is right there so there is no need to go far once you are home.

I live in the Spring area (Near The Woodlands) its pretty nice up here. But everywhere you go in a major city's area there will be crime. I have lived in many areas of houston ( southwest, west, east and north) but I have found the Spring, Tomball, Cypress, Katy, and The Woodlands to be the best so far. And like they have said anywhere you live is a comute no matter where you live in the Houston area... But if you are wanting a good place for the kiddos DO NOT LIVE IN HOUSTON CITY LIMITS!!! The schools all pretty much suck except if you live in the rich parts of houston... and I mean you have to have a truck load of hundreds to even think about moving there (River Oaks area).

I have lived in Katy for as long as I can remember and it is pretty nice with lots of neighborhoods going up in that price range. I now live in Fulshear which is just south of Katy. I would look into maybe Cinco Ranch area because then you could take Westpark right to the Beltway and the schools are nice in that area.

i havent been there in a while but it is more rural than the other areas suggested and it is a good 45 minute drive from houston depending on traffic

I personly love Katy, and the traffic isn't that bad. I-10 will be opening up an additional 33 1/3 lanes in the next 3 months.

North of Houston is fine, but it will be well North. If I were going to move and still stay in this area, it would be further west.

I was born in Houston, grew up in Baytown and as an adult have lived in Baytown, Houston, and Katy. I went to school in Deer Park.

When my wife and I started having kids, we got to Katy before they started school. I DID NOT want my children going to HISD.

I live in Pearland and love it. The city is growing fast and there is a lot of good things coming. It is also convenient to several areas. My girlfriend works in the med center and takes 288 and I go to Deer Park which is just Beltway & 225.

Cool somebody on my side of town! I was starting to feel like the lone ranger.

Cool Ecomike. What part of town you in?

Near I-45 & Airport Blvd exit, or Hyw 3 and Spencer Hyw.
I grew up in River Oaks / Galleria, moved here in 1977 to get away from the traffic.:D
