Are you happy with your leaf springs?

I would like your opinions on how you think different leaf springs work compared to others.

The running is between: RE 4.5s (which I'd have to run a spacer with), Rusty's 6", BOR 6", Alcan 6" custom, or some other brand.

I'm going with 7" of lift. I have 1.5" shakles. Approx. 150# of tools/spares and tire. This is not a DD. It is dedicated Trail use. I would think settling wouldn't be much of a factor.

I'm running BOR's 4" pack with ORGS dogleg shackles. I've got almost exactly 6" of lift unloaded. I've had them on for a year and a half with 2 trips to Moab, and a couple more trips towing a 1 ton pop-up. They've sagged a little, but right about where JohnJohn said they would. I would cheerfully buy another set, and have no problems recommending them. FYI, I've got RE's 4.5" ZJ coils up front to match the rear lift. No spacers or blocks at either end. Mine is a daily driver, and the ride is acceptable to me.

My first lift was with Rusty's 3" springs. Running with 150# of stuff, I would not recommend Rusty's. If you run light, his springs might be an option.

I have the RE 3.5s going to 4.5 and love them they sit way more than what they are rated at. almost a year and I'm still at 5.5 in the rear. that is with a 1.25" shackle and 3.5 leafs.

Is that a 1.25" longer shackle or a 1.25" lift shackle? I'm just asking because I want a new spring pack when I get the money and am looking closely at the RE's and trying to determine how much the 3.5 and 4.5 packs actually give by themselves. I have mine dialed in right now and want to avoid having to dial everything in again as much as possible.

xj92- GREAT question!
I've experienced myself, and this has been confirmed by several others, that the RE shackle only gives about 3/4" of added lift. I think it's 1.25" longer than stock, so that would make sense since you only get 1/2 of that.
That being said, the RE unit is an awesome shackle. It's got a cutout for the bolt, and it's solid and greaseable.

Rusty's 4.5" springs, not happy at all.

You too?

2 months after I bought his they sagged to 3"

His "fix" was a short, thick AAL

They are now starting to get a negative arch. (2 year old springs mildly used...)

I remember seeing somewhere on his site that he had a lifetime warranty on his products (materials and workmanship).......Can't find it now.... :banghead:

If I ever went back to regular leaf springs on a cherokee, i would call up johnjohn at bigoffroad....my 8"ers weren't a good match for the rig the way i had it set up(too light in the rear) but dammit if JohnJohn didn't try like hell to sell me the ones I *should* have run! I think he's got a great product, and he'll steer you right. If there's one thing he's doing right, is selling lift springs that actually give you every inch of the advertised ride height.

I was leaning to BOR and I know people say he sells custom Alcans. Does he have 'em made to different specs than Alcan would give me. What I'm asking is, wouldn't it be cheaper to get them from the source?

I installed the RE1462 4.5 springs this past week with a set of Daystar 1.5 lift shackles I netted 8" of lift!! I think it will settle down to 6 3/4 to 7" the ride is WAY better than the AAL that was in it.

Are you running with any load? That's nice results, but is that typical of most installs and I wonder if I'd have to add a block later if it settled past 6.5"?

i absolutely hate my leaf springs...

there custom alcan 8" springs for a 100# payload, they dont flex, there just to stiff.

i forgot what there made out of but the guy at alcan said they were made of some pretty soft material.

there new so im going to continue wheeling with them and see if the soften up any, but if they dont im going to make my own pack out of these.

on the other hand, the people at alcan are really nice and they have great support. if i were to do it again i would get some 6" springs and run some long ass shackles on them

I'm running RE 5.5's and so far I really like them. They have only been on for 4.5 months, but they ride nice and are really more than 5.5".

Enjoy,
Curt

Do they sell 5.5"s? All I've seen is up to 4.5". I thought they just added a lift shackle to their kits to go higher.

It's loaded with work tools...maybe 125 lbs or so. I'm going to ad a 1" block by summertime I would like 7.5 to run the 35's :)

He likely means Re4.5's with the Rubicon lift shackle (1.25" of lift afforded)...

I have beaten my re 3.5's with the Tera 2" shackle to death....All twisted and wavy, but I'm still sitting at 5.5" of lift (so advertised lift from the spring after a seanon of hellish beatings....fully loaded with Gear and tools for days on end in the woods....)

I've got 11 leaf ORGS Nationals. Best riding spring I've ever felt.
