I seem to recall reading that the Australian manufacturers have to have their products tested by the govt, and anything you bolt on the front of the car(or rear)can not interfere with the factory crumple zones. If you used ANY bracing other then the factory 3 bolt mount, it would upset/change the factory crumple zone(you know, the frame rail)
I would say the regulation accounts for the ARBs "flimsiness" and the testing probably accounts for the expense.

But does that mean it is somehow inferior to other bumpers as some say here? Or are they just jealous because they cannot afford one?

I think what they're knocking is that the ARB bumper seems to crumple just like the stock bumper, which it is designed to do. It would be "inferior" to the bumpers that use a 3/16" or 1/4" plate extending a foot back down both frame rails and attached by 7 or 8 bolts per side, from a tow point strength/rail reinforcement point of view. My post was informational concerning why the ARB bumper had such a (supposedly) weak mount system.
