You would not believe the amount od sludge in that motor! After I got the motor out and torn down I found 3 spun bearings. The connecting rods are shot and no one makes an aftermarket version either. The dealer wants over $200 for one! supposedly that price includes a piston too, but that's still alot more than I'm willing to pay for a connecting rod.
With a little help I was able to find connecting rods in Chicago for $20 each plus freight, they should be here next week.
The crankshaft was in good enough condition that the machine shop said they can straighten, grind, and polish it...phew!
Reassembly should start toward the end of next week.
If any of you shadetree mechanics have ever had to hoist a car to pull the motor/tranny out the bottom....pray for me! What a job!
