anyone with 4 buttons on their key fob?

I opened up my key fob for my 01 limited today to change the battery, and being the curious person I am, I took it the rest of the way apart. I only have 3 buttons: lock, unlock, and panic. However, directly under the Jeep logo, inside there is actually another button with a contact on the circuit board. I'm wondering if anyone has that 4th button? Does it control an additional option on some cherokees.... or is it just a generic fob for other chrysler vehicles that might have 4 buttons? I didn't actually press it incase it was some sort of reset for the vehicle codes.

hmm, probably a cost-saving thing. same board for different vehicles. probably used for the trunk release on the cars. our 1999 300M has a button right above the panic button for the trunk release.

Out of curiosity, what's the part number on your remote? My 2000 Limited has the same 'hidden button'; part number's 56036859.

FWIW, I've got an 01 sport with the hidden button (just got bored enough to take it apart)

I've got the number 206542-1 and under it says "Rev B"

Where'd you get that number? I read mine off of the back of the fob; there's nothing inside or outside of it that looks like that.

the back of mine has the same chrysler p/n 56036859

i'm sure it's just the same board as they use on alot of vehicles, probably broadcasts the same signal for trunk release, but our xj doesn't even "hear" it

I was reading the number on the back of the board. my fob has the same number

I think it is a mind control device placed there by the Germans after they took over Chrysler. Anyone who presses it will immediatly crave dark beer, sourkraut, and will become obssesed by overweight hairy women.

Or it is a generic circuit board that can be used with a trunk release button. The Concord/Intrepid/300M LH bodies use it, and the KJs do too.

damn.. so NOW i know whats wrong with the parts guys! I thought they were just wierd.

And bryan is totally wrong... the button is actually for the super secret hydraulic suspension only available on the AWD Town and Countries. Trust me, i worked on one today after I installed a lowering kit on a TJ.

OK, we really need to quit pulling this guys leg. The secret 4th button is to activate the anti-rollover outriggers. I saw this guy had them swapped onto his Landcruiser. It's only avaliable on export models. ;)

ah.. maybe that is a different part number.

I remember a company that was going to produce a bolt on anti roll over arm like that for XJs... what was the name... damn i cant remember. It was some guy. He had some cool secret products.

As much as I love screwing with people and appreciate the humour in the posts to that effect, there's been enough SPOBI and speculation here lately that we don't need to pee in our own pool. So:

The hidden button is for programming.

Care to elaborate on this?

My first post was accurate, well the end of it maybe.

Just having a little fun tonight. Really, there is no programming button on the remote. You need a DRBIII or other scan tool to program the remotes for 97 and up XJ. On some similar Chrysler vehicle remotes, there is a trunk relese button.

Some 97 and up used a remote like this:

Similar remote, just with a trunk release button.

the 00 and 01 used a control like this:

similar remote, just with a hatch/trunk release

I AM NOT SELLING THIS CRAP, just merely using ebay as referenece for your viewing pleasure.

Is that better?

I can't recall the details but I recall reading somewhere that programming the keyfob to match/work with the alarm system the dealer enters the alarm setup mode and presses and holds the chysler emblem to send the keyfob security code to the alarm system.
