haha atleast im not the only one!! i want this thing tuned for Saturday.

i pretty much have nothing...i heard someone for a second then that was it. i know i just need to tune it, been searching and reading. i think im gonna try to find a swr meter after work. where do you think the best place to get one out here would be?

I'd like help you guys but I live by San Jose and I don't get out to Sac very often. Do either of you guys have a SWR meter and what type of antennas do you have? Do they have a threaded piece at the top or are they trim to length? Its pretty easy actually, I could probably instruct you over the phone and tell you what to do. There are lots of little things guys do to "tune" their set up but as long as you have good connections and a few good matched parts tuning the antenna will make all the difference in the world. You can get a SWR meter at Fry's for 12 bucks. The SWR hooks inline from the antenna to the radio so you'll need a little patch cable as well as the main cable. I use to run a mag mount antenna that looked like a little cell phone antenna and when I tuned it it worked great. Now I have a FireStik II and my range is much better but its still just a "CB" so range is still limited to mainly "line of sight". One quick fact, the reason you tune your set up is because when you transmit the signal travels to the antenna and "fires" or transmits. BUT if your antenna is not tuned what happens is the signal reflects back down the antenna back to your radio and really drops the efficiency down so that is why tuning it makes it work so well. Also you can over heat the amp in your CB and it could break. I've never personally seen it but I hear that's what happens. So trust me or anyone else on here, tune your CB's and you'll be very happy with the results.

I have an SWR meter you can use if you have an adjustable antenna. If you don't want to buy one, you are welcome to use mine instead. I may be at the snow run since my club is not answering emails about Prairie City this weekend. PM me.

I have an SWR meter in San Jose if anyone needs to tune. Takes 5-10 minutes max.

I may be with you guys on the snow run, so I will bring it and we can do a quick tune in the McD's parking lot before heading up the trail. Like the weirdo says, it takes 5 minutes, which is about the same as it takes to order and consume an Egg McMuffin.

Now I'm not sure if I will make it. I have the meter if you want to meet up at a mutual location tomorrow or Friday. We can either tune it in a parking lot, or you can take it with you. PM me if you want to meet up.

Yeah just tried to use my cb tonight and It would work for a min. Then it wouldn't so I think I need to tune mine before the run.

I think I'm meeting up wit Sean this evening. I'll give him the SWA meter and he can let you guys all use it. It is fairly straightforward if you have an adjustable antenna.

By the way, what do you mean it would work for a minute, then it wouldn't? Is this a squelch issue or power?
