Anyone see new Lowrance HDS overhead photo GPS?

Hay guys, they sure look nice online. The screen is a high definition zoomable display of an overhead view that looks like a Google Earth view, or you can toggle to a 3D view. It's a sunlight viewable pure-white LED screen. 5 to 10” screens. We can input extra fine off road detail from Map Create software. With Sirius you can even overlay real-time weather radar. $500 to $2000. Anyone see or hear what they really look like in person?

Sounds interesting to me as a GPS geek - but I didn´t find anything on their site, just the HDS-5. Google picture search revealed some other modells, but mainly for marine use - got no need for a fish finder on german highways...

So - which Lowrance are you talking about?

They make a 5M and a 7M models in their marine division. Those don't have a fish finder or depth sounder. The Ms are for maping.

The HDS-5 Baja is a great GPS, and if you have ever compared the speed of the Lowrance to other GPS units, there is a night and day difference.

Agree, but the Baja does not have the overhead view that looks like Google Earth. It only has the topo lines and you can add those to the photo view if you get Map Create 7 and add that data. The 7" screen is about $250 more. I have the old 480c which is the 5" & seams a little small, but not bad. I found the 7M for $900 shipped.

You just order the 5m and its the same as the Baja. All of the m models lack a lot of the street mapping from the factory becouse they are really designed more for marine. We just refit our race truck with the 10m, it's killer!

Thanks. I heard the Ms needed the Insite USA basemap in them & then you got land maping as well but it just doesn't have all the detail of small gravel roads etc. like my Map Create software has & maybe the HDS Baja units come with. I also heard that the new Bajas don't have the overhead view but instead just topo maps like my old Baja 480c, but a higher def screen. Have you seen your 10" up & running and what does the overhead view, if you have it, really look like? Is it nice detail even when you zoom in?

all of the The M-hd models have the overhead view, but it only works when you are zoomed way out, when you zoom it in it gets very pix-elated and you have to toggle it off. The Baja models don't have the overhead, it is a software flash that Lowrance only puts in the M models, but in return, the M models are lacking in Road Mapping. If you want real info, much better than I can give, Call PCI radios in Bellflower, ca, these guys can give you all the answers, they are the ones who do all the Race Cars, and even teach GPS usage.

I got mine & set it up. It's just awesome!
