anyone race their cherokees?

Seat of the pants SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) and compared to other cars on the track, I'd guess the Petty Cash race car is in the low 7 second 0-60 range, and acceleration drops sharply after 70. Probably a low-mid 16 second 1/4 time.

This does not compare favorably with most modern sports cars, but does stack up well with a lot of sporty cars from the '80s and early '90s.

When they first dropped a 4.0 in our babies, this thing cooked, it just doesnt shine as bright when you keep the same engine for a decade or two :smoker:

86 MR2s will run ~17 in the quarter. 1990 Civic si does 16.8

An 89 XJ runs a 17.1 according to dragtimes.

Yeah well back then even the V8's by Chevy and Ford weren't making 200HP. So go back 20 years and yes our Jeeps are fast. Considering. But now even your standerd Grand Cherokee has close to 300 Horses from the 3.5L v6.

Very true, but you also forget that pretty much no SUV weighs half as much as ours. Too much dang safety crap. Curb weight of a KK is 3.9k. thats like 20% heavier than an xj and they are real close dimension wise.

I've messed around with a Z06, GTR, DB9, and an AMG C63. The GTR was the only one I beat, and I think my throttle body spacer definitely had something to do with it. All the others blew past me with their tires spinning. I would say I won though, cause they did exactly what I wanted them to do:roll:

Ugh. Z06's scare me. Too much power, not enough tires. I will say, the GtR is by far the fastest car I think I will ever drive in my lifetime lol. The CLS55 AMG was nice (same motor as the C63) but I think it was just too heavy for it's own good. If a gig works out this summer I should get to try out an F430, dbS, GT3, and Murcielago. :)

Back to Jeep though. Yea, they're slow. Ungodly slow.

NCCBMWCCA let me Auto-X Mean Green at Old Dominion(Manassas) today and it did pretty good: beat a e46 M3, a z4M coupe(who ended his day hitting a fence), a brand new 5.0 Mustang, and a bunch of others. We got 7 timed runs for the record and 5 or so fun runs off the record. My fastest run was 32.8s during a fun run. I'm not sure if I had any clean runs(many +1s and +2s), but I'll post the results on Monday when they get posted. The Jeep had so much interest that I ended up letting people ride along for 4-5 of the ftr runs and let the organizer who allowed me to enter it to drive it during one of the fun runs(he wanted to finally get to auto-x a jeep since his YJ was denied years ago). What a blast--will borrow brother's cam next time, but someone might've took some footage and pics.

What is the reqs for most auto X events? Is it just a blanket "no SUVs" policy?

Yes--usually a no SUV policy. I've been a member with Capitol Driving Club the past two years and they wouldn't allow mine to run due to "others will come". NCCBMW said they used to let the x3s and x5s run until some guy with an x3 bet he could beat another car, threw on some R-compounds, and then rolled. One of the organizers joked that they thought mine was gonna be the one causing problems when the z4M coupe hit the fence(was right before the finish box too--he locked up instead of letting off the gas). Oh yeah, upon leaving Manassas, I saw an older lifted red 2-dr with a NAXJA sticker, so that's why I waved and shouted "NAXJA", whoever you are.

I would probably never put R compounds on an SUV. Id rather slide than roll.

I was doing plenty of sliding during the fun runs. Auburn LSD FTW. What I like about the Jeep over the m3 is the engine braking when off-throttle--Jeep jake-brakes and the m3 acts like an auto. I hope someone got some video so you can see it in action.

A 4.6 stroker and some weight reduction can fix that. My XJ flies compared to most modern SUVs (thanks to high torque and low weight) and you'd need to spend some serious coin to buy one that'll beat it. :D

What trim level is yours? My 91 sport title claims mine weighs 2950 and my 92 stripper special is less than that.. I haven't gotten around to actually weighing them and my 92 weighs a lot more than that now.

What trim level is yours?

Mine weighs in at ~3450lb with a 1/2 tank of gas and no driver. It's a 4-door, 4WD Laredo with AX15 tranny, stock trim (PS, AC, cruise, electric door locks/windows/mirrors but manual cloth seats), swing away tire carrier, stock tires/suspension, and 75lb of weight reduction (removed skidplates, roof rack).
Removing the spare wheel, rear seats, front passenger seat, and running a 1/8 tank of gas would easily save me another 170lb.
