any problems with carborated 84 engine for off road

I have chance to buy an 84 xj with rebuilt engine,

Any problems with carborated engine for off road use

Which engine is it? The 4 cylinder or the V6?
4 cylinder is OK
V6 avoid like the plauge

I've been with many CJ's that have carbs and often on steep ledges that would flood out or starve their engine and would need me in my cherokee to go first and give them a strap after multiple failed attempts. That guy we strapped all the time is now selling his CJ and only drives his cherokee.
