Just want to know if anyones from Iowa & where's a good wheeling spot?

mason city, way north

well i live in Iowa city, and there used to be a public spot to wheel near Solon, but it is off limits to full size. (insurance company pressured the state to not let us jeeps back in after the land changed hands from feds. to state owned) it is atv and bike park now. only places to wheel legally is privately owned ground, usually owned or run by local clubs like Miobi. i have been to Miobi runs many times and the land is very good. very tall timber, quarries, man made rock garden and a creek to run in. there are other clubs around the Des Moines area. where in Iowa are you?

i am from Burlington and there is nothing great in my area. i have a friend that his uncle lets us on his land every so often but noting great. Where in Iowa City is there a place to wheel, that is not far from me

like i mentioned, there is nothing in eastern Iowa that i know of. you are not that far from Rockport (RORP) in illinois though. otherwise, near Des Moines and western Iowa are about it. there are some other clubs near the capitol, that have some land to use if you join their club, just check online web search. JOCCI is one, along with Central Iowa 4 wheel drive club ( i think) to name a couple.

There is not much here in Iowa. South of Knoxville is MIOBI. JOCCI has a farm they go to think outside of Pella. CIWA gets us into Timber Ridge one weekend a year but that is clear over north of Council Bluffs. Hope that helps.

I live in Council Bluffs and there is not really anywhere to wheel at. I've been seaching and have only came up w/ timber ridge(no membership) and turtlecreek in northern Kansas. If you find somewhere closer let me know.

do you drive a red xj with a roof rack?

I have personally found that if you drive down south a bit around knoxville and atleast as far west as Mount Ayr all you have to do is look for class B roads and keep driving down them until you burry your jeep. Many of the so-called class B roads are in fact 4x4 trails that are completely impassable with anything less that a built rig. My friend and I burried his outlander in a tank trap, we pulled it out with my uncles tractor which he has to steer with the brakes because the front end didn't get enough traction and he had chains on it. What's more is that he was going through mud holes so deep that he had to lift his boots off the footrest plates to keep from getting wet so I would say there are public trails, if you know where to look. Got GPS? I'll give your the coordinates of this trail.

in des moines county you get a ticket for tearing up the roads.

There's nothing to tear up, the roads are completely mud and not graded the only tracks are from tractors, if that, there's trees fallen over the "road" it's only officially a class B road but in reallity it's a 4x4 trail

:soapbox:
Thats the kind of wheeling thats hurting the opening of public land. Plus some farmers get real mad when they brrake off a front hub because someone rutted up a 'B' road. Join a club and help with the fight for public land.:soapbox:
