Any ideas?? (help)

OK - Went to start it (sat for an hour) and it started no problem. Has been idling for 5 minutes no issue.

Any ideas what may have caused the stall?

Just to be on the safe side I am going to run out and get some fuel system cleaner.

Thanks in advance...

I had something similar happen to my 2000 this summer. It turned out to be the cam posistion sensor had been rotated out of wack when my oil pump drive seized up (thanks Brian C). I got it to start up a couple of times after, but it was never the same. Check to see if the oil pump drive has been rotated out of position (you can see this clearly as there will be marks where the retaining clip held it down. Here is my post on what happened to mine:

hope this helps. B.C's post is the 3rd down that led me to a fix eventually.

Ben - Thanks man. Put about 30 miles on it since it stalled Sunday Morning and it ran fine until yesterday. About 2 miles from home it croaked again. This sounds like a definate possibility. The only problem is I don't have any of the neccessary tools so I have to take it to a shop. I will print this out and take it with me to help with their diagnostic.

The main difference between what I am getting and the issue you had is the CEL did not come on at all. The darn thing just died. We didn't even know it deid until we tried to hit the gas.

I'll keep you posted.

Warrenty is (was) 50,000 miles on smog equipment, which the CPS would qualify for. I'd replace the CPS before doing anything else, it doesn't even need the oil pump thing to go bad, it could just be going out.

Thanks Rich. I did soemthing I am going to regret. I took it to a local mechanic.
A. I don't have a ton of time to work on it. Although this is probably a 30 minute job.
B. Don't want to spend money where I don't need to. Let's say I replace the CPS and CAM Sensor ($180 for both) and it ends up not being that. Then the next step would be the oil pump thingy and I don't have the tools for that so then I would need to take it to the mechanic anyways.

So I figured I would just bite the bullet.

I'll keep you posted.

the oil pump drive is an easy fix. One bolt and it comes out. Slip the new oil pump drive in after you swap the cam sensor, and make sure that the cam sensor is clocked facing directly at the rear of the vehichle, this is to ensure the proper fuel sync. This may be the only thing you have to take it to the dealer for, is if you pull code PO360 (no fuel sync) after you install it. Let me know if you need literature on this, I can email the pages out of the FSM if you don't have one.

Hey, I've taken mine to the shop plenty of times.

Glad you found the problem.

I took mine to the shop this morning. It's a nice feeling.

I also learned that the Mexicans at a tire shop in Bakersfield can figure out what size a starter mount bolt needs to be, just as well as regular mechanics can.
