Antenna Mast

I have a laredo 90 cherokee with an antenna that should automatically go up and down when the radio is switched off. I know I have an aftermarket radio in it now but I think if the radio is working and turning off and on then the mast should go up and down. I know how to replace antenna masts and fix those problems but does anyone know where to get just the antenna mast. The jeep dealer here says its not serviceable.(DO WHAT!!!!!?)

Thank you

The antenna can be serviced, but only by using donor parts. AC Delco makes the stock antenna motor. If you unscrew the top of the antenna, you can push out the top(and thinnest) segment through the bottom. You get access to the antenna assembly by removing plastic wheel well fender. It’s easier if you take off the tire first.
In the middle of the antenna mast you will find a white nylon cord – almost like a fat guitar string. This cord sometimes breaks and causes the antenna to run non-stop.
Since the motor was a very common AC Delco part, I got one out of a 1991 Cadillac Sedan DeVille.

Wiring:
Located about 6 inches above the passenger’s side kick panel light, you will find the antenna relay.
It has three wires going into it – white, gray, and green.
Green = ground
White = 12v. antenna down
Gray = 12v. antenna up.
You will find the other end of the gray cable behind the radio – in the cable cluster.

First things first -- not all after-market radios have a connection for a power antenna. Most do, but that doesn't mean the person who installed the radio connected it properly. Before you expend a lot of time, effort, and possibly money chasing problems at the antenna, I suggest you first confirm that the radio is wired correctly.

RTicUL8,
Do u know of a source for the relay?

I try to get all my parts at the boneyard.

You might check Napa.
