another round of dana30 carnage!!

ok so yall are all beyond awsome. all the pms iv got and support is fricking cool.

and here it all falls down to money and time.

i dig my 4.10s but 4.56 seems to be a better way.
i like my 44 out back and would not mind a super 30(new axle trussed and such)in the front.
this would be the faster option i think.

but an offer for a 9in and a 44 has come up. detroits and 4.88s. but parts like brakes and such are not included.

thoughts suggestions comments ?

its not your dd still right? the 44/9 sounds like a good deal, is it set up for a jeep already? if its not does it have welded wedges on the axle? id sell the detroit out of the rear and get a spool too... i had a detroit in the back of a 5 spd rig once and it SUCKED... just my thoughts, brakes are parts that id replace on a new set anyway...

nope bare tubes not set up for anything. no brakes on the 9 and the 44 has stock shafts and no knuckles or steering

and i like to dd it as necessary. its like a back up/toy. if old blue goes down or anyone of the other trucks its nice to have.

this makes me lean to the super 30 and regear the damn things and call it a day.

I'm building my version of a super-30 right now.

Yukon 4.88's
Aussie
RuffStuff cover w/recessed bolts
Trussed and gusseted (home made truss out of 2x4x3/16 box)
Longfield Birfs
LCA mount skids

The cover will be tied into the truss to reduce ring gear deflection even further.

I'll tell you in a year or so if it was worth the money.

I'm running the Longfields now and they are awesome in my 4.10 geared, Aussie locked D-30 on 35's. This axle is not trussed but has survived plenty of abuse. I like the ground clearance the 30 gives me compared to going "one tons", I tend to not get hung up as much therefore I do not have to push the limits of the axle as much. I like the stock width for the tight trails I run and for street driving. I vote building the 30 but it really depends on your right foot and how deep your pockets are.

Good Luck!

4.88's in a 30 is sketch... no matter how braced it is, ive got 4.56's sittin on my desk at home and i think theyre small enough to consider getting them cryoed, and theyre going in a truck thats not getting wheeled (but will still be pushed by a v8).

.... longfields are hawt by the way ;)

JMHO and please don't take offense to this but it looks like the gears were not set to specs. Lennie, was at the crawl with the duce and mj on 36's, Has not had any ring gear problems yet. He is also an auto. That being said, I'd bet money if it was not the set up on the gears it was the 5 speed if that is what you are running. It is a fact that auto's are more forgiving to axle parts!

The 4.88"s would be really nice!!!

That's a tough call. I know for me, I choose not to go full width but it might be right for you. It shouldn't take much to get the parts you need if you go with the 44/9.

iv been thinkin about what im gonna do and i have come to part of the conclusion.

the rear is a 44. 4.56s installed by a guy who i know can do it right.

now the front needs to be addressed
a super 30 is the desired outcome. 4.56s. with my locker and other stuff.
the where and how i get one is the question.......... fun times!
