Another 8.8 question

I must have read 5000 posts about the 8.8 install, and none of them talked about the fact that the pnion on the 8.8 is 4" off center, and the dana 35/8.25 are almost perfectly centered.
Did I possibly get a weird 8.8, or did nobody notice this?

Looking at the classic 44 vs 8.8 debate...this is a huge minus for the 8.8.

It's not even a factor in the decision. Makes no difference what-so-ever.

Millions have done the 8.8 swap.....including me.

I have done a few 8.8 swaps now and have never had any issues with anything concerning the offset of the axle. You MIGHT have the driveshaft hit the muffler under articulation but that is if you have a BIG muffler.

I don't think you've upset anyone here..........you would know without a doubt if you did.:D

I do belive that most, if not all, 8.8's are offset.

Cool, Thanks.
I was just worried because I picked mine up from a mountaineer, instead of an explorer...same vehicle I know, but my luck they would have a different offset.

A lot of guys have got theirs from a mountaineer also. If i come across an 8.8 i am gonna nab it but my 8.25 is still good for now.

I have had driveshaft yoke to muffler interference when I pulled a few trailers that were loaded down pretty good. This is with the stock muffler. I have recently put a flowmaster 50 series in and it is about 1" narrower than stock and looks to clear fine, but I havent really put it through its paces yet. Yes, the pumpkin is offset, no it shouldnt be a problem, yes you can have muffler interference with stock exhaust.

That's a damn good price for an 8.8 housing...Thanks!
It's a shame they didn't do anything with the axle tube plugs, like weld them to the pumpkin or something.

I gave $100 for mine. Mine had stock shafts though.:eyes:
I don't have $700 in both axles combined.

I got a complete 8.8 3.73 gears with LSD and disc brakes for $150. Keep your eye out on craigslist, thats where i seem to see them for that price. They can be had for about $250 in the junkyards around here.

i got a ranger 8.8 4.10 lsd for free... hehehe.... then i took the limitied slip and put it in my ranger.
stil have the 8.8 that may or may not be bent with the 4.10 open.
got the axle from a local body shop they werent sure if it was bent or not so they replaced it.

I'm sure if you contact them they could do it for you. Their shop is actually 20 minutes from me and a lot of locals say they do good work. I have no personal experience with them though.

Can anyone do me a huge favor?
I really would like to know if somebody could measure their pinion offset real quick. I am 99% sure there isn't a difference between the years, but not 100%.
Some yahoooo on an explorer forum was saying they are different, ( I highly doubt this is correct), but I just want to be positive before I waste time and money into mine.

Thanks :worship:
