alternative to replacing cam to gain greater lift duration?

Here in the States, or elsewhere?

In the UK, though at that time most 4-bangers were still pushrod OHV with cast iron heads so the engine in my Mazda was pretty advanced back then. The car also had a twin-barrel carb, 3-spoke sports steering wheel, 130mph speedo, 8000rpm tachometer with a 6000rpm redline, center console, and bucket front seats with built-in headrests which was also unusual at that time for a small car.
