alt. on a 94 dodge dakota

Well, with my friend learning about my casual wrenching on the xj, I've been duped into needing to help a friend of a friend change the above mentioned part. Does anybody have one of these trucks and or experience with said replacement?

I had a 93, nothing went out on it (167000 miles) It should be pretty easy. I have service manual for the 93 if u need help. Is a v8 or v6 ?
