It is not wise to trust unknown parties at water crossings, but watching the guy in the red shirt pull that half-submerged log out might have provided a clue--looks like it was at least a couple feet deep.

If you are doing a crossing like that, I would not hit it that fast, either. Ease in, get a nice bow wave going and keep it steady--if you start to sink, then punch it if need be.

A snorkle may seem silly, but if you're going to be doing stuff like that, it is cheap insurance against hydrolock. Everything else you can dry out, but if a cylinder sucks water, it is pretty much engine swapping time.
