SO how many of you know they are doing Alice In Wonderland the live action movie. Cant wait for it to come out.

Director Tim BUrton
The Mad Hatter - Johnny Depp
The Red Queen-Helena Bonham Carter
The White Queen- Anne Hathaway
The Caterpillar-Alan Rickman.

More info can be seen at imdb.com

That actually sounds pretty good.

I like Burtons films and have enjoyed almost everything Depp has done.

When is it supposed to be out?

Why would I want to see a movie about a drug trip, I lived thru the 60's and don't need no reminders LOL.....

The cast is awesome... Tim Burton is great!!!

I can't wait to see this. I just hope they put a new spin on it.... The same old tale would be kind of boring even with a great cast...

How about a moat full of floating heads around the Red Queens palace. Is that spin enough. This movie like Charlie and the Cholcate Factory is going back to the books roots.

Depp doesn't do much for me, but Rickman as the Caterpillar should be good. And, I'll watch just about anything with Anne Hathaway in it...

I think Depp has really become a good actor. His early stuff, 21 Jump Street or Cry Baby, was weak. But his last couple movies, and the one out now have all been good.

His brain might be wired a little different then most folks, but he does play those crazy roles well.

Oh, I'll give him that! I did enjoy him in Pirates - he did Keith Richards damned near spot-on and made a funny damned pirate!

I'm not sure I'd want to watch his recut of Willy Wonka tho - I got spoiled on Gene Wilder (he can do "wistfully happy" like no other. I've enjoyed him in just about everything I've seen him in. I think it was Mel Brooks that gave him his start.)

I never did watch 21 Jump Street, and I hadn't even heard of "Cry Baby" until just now, so that doesn't mean anything to me.

Frankly, most actors currently under forty seem to rely more upon their looks than their talent - most of the actors I enjoy were doing other things (usually in trades) before they got found. Let's see...

Bruce Willis was a bartender
Harrison Ford was a carpenter
Sean Connery was a coffin polisher and a prize fighter before Disney found him
Gene Hackman's first adult job was a three-year hitch in the Corps
Clint Eastwood was an Army swim instructor after swimming in three miles from a plane crash, and dug pools while he was getting started.
Bill Cosby was a bartender when he was found

You get the idea. I guess I just prefer seeing people who understand what it's like to work for a living, get dirt under their nails, and therefore don't rely on their looks to get parts - instead finding and cultivating talent.

Depp has some talent to be sure - mainly found in "unbalanced" roles. But he doesn't seem to have the range that others have (Connery plays every role with the "shame akshent" to be sure - but he's still got a good deal of range.)

hmmmm sounds kinda interesting

On a side note Young Frankenstein has to be one of the top 5, maybe top 3, movies of all time.

Everything Gene Wilder did with Mel Brooks is in the top 5

Don't forget Blazing Saddles - Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Cleavon Little, Slim Pickens - almost a "Who's Who" of funnay...

And Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother was one of his as well - Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Leo McKern, ...

Then The Producers - Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, with an able side role by Kenneth Mars and Dick Shawn turning in an unbelievably comic performance as Hitler.

Face it, I know if I had to pick a batch of favourite movies, I'd have to run well down the list before I got to something that wasn't a Mel Brooks film (History of the World, Part One. Spaceballs. You get the idea...)

History of the world,...

Bring on the Nuns!

:D

Yea I see what your saying, just for the record Depp dropped out of HS @ 15 ('78) to start a rock band. I don't know his families back ground but being on your own at 15 is probably pretty tough.

Comparing him to Sir Connery isn't exactly fair, haha. I think Depp has a pretty wide variety of things.

Public Enemies ('30s gangster)
Pirates I, II, III
King of the HIll
Chocolat (my wife said it was good)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Donnie Brasco
Edward Scissorhands
Platoon
Nightmare on Elm Street
(thank god for IMDB)

Most lead characters have quirks about them, that's what makes them memorable. Depp just seems to play the parts that WAY over the deep end very well.

I'm not saying he is better then the guys you listed, I like all of them. I just think he has done a damn fine job, and is one of those guys that is a lot better than most realize.

Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks has to be one of the best combos every!
