As most of you know My Dad passed away a year ago today. I found it fitting that today I received the remainder of his possessions that I shipped to myself from California. Amongst the rubble is all of his awards. He was Civil Service at McClellan AFB in Sac, CA for 33 years. My Grandfather was also Civil at the same base for 25 years. My Grandfather on my mother's side was Active AF for an undisclosed amount of time and then went Civil, also at McClellan. Both him and my other Grandfather worked in the same division on McClellan. I am a Contractor at Buckley AFB in CO. So my family has alot of time vested in the Air Force.

Thanks for everything Dad....................

No doubt.

God bless the internet. I knew my grandpa served in the war. But thats about all I knew. None of my surviving family has any idea what he did. Today I came across the National Archives. Which has a searchable database for WWII Army Enlistment Records. Popped in my Grandpa's name and bam.

Enlisted on 09/16/1940 with the Coast Guard, served in the Coastal Artillery Corps. Private Howard M. Kittrell. And based on the fact that his Civil occupation is listed as "Semiskilled chauffeurs and drivers, bus, taxi, truck, and tractor", the fact that the Coast Guard manned the LCVP's, and the fact that I have pictures in a photo album from those crafts with his handwriting on the back; that my Grandfather piloted Higgins boats for beach landings during WWII. I am requesting his service records as we speak.

:wantyou:

Rev, I'll check the link when I get home.
