Windows Vista Help said:
Take a screen capture (print screen)

You can take a picture of what is on your screen by pressing PRINT SCREEN (or PRTSCN, on some keyboards). This is called a screen capture. You can then paste the screen capture into a document, e‑mail message, or other file. There are two types of screen captures you can take: the entire screen, or just the active window. For example, if you have three programs open at the same time, you might want a screen capture of only the active window.

To copy the entire screen
  • Press PRINT SCREEN.

To copy only an active window
  • Press ALT+PRINT SCREEN.

Tip
  • You can paste your screen capture into Paint, which is a drawing program you can use to crop, rotate, and resize pictures.

To paste a screen capture into a Paint file
  1. Open Paint.
  2. Click Edit, and then click Paste.

If you're not using Vista, you can search the "help" page on your computer for 'Screen Capture'

The process may be the same for the other Windows OS's.

You can mess with your friends badly if you can get 5 minutes alone with their computer.
  1. Screen cap their desktop
  2. save the photo
  3. use their image viewer to bring up the photo
  4. click on view full screen

It will look like their desktop, but nothing will work, because they are seeing a picture of their desktop, not their real desktop.

Not too shabby. I gave up on the print screen. I know I printed the screen but I can't find the clipboard on Windows XP and everything I found about walking me through it isn't adding up. Gonna have to take my word for it.
