A peak at what a certain traitor has been up to

Hmmmmm...... A line lock sound like a really good idea for the blazer buggy too...... How hard/easy are those to install/set up?

Your idea of leaving a snatch block attached to the winch line is growing on me too........ spool the cable by pulling the snatch block to your anchor location and you're always set to double the pulling power...... just don't wanna have to lug that HUGE of a snatch block around...... :D

Line lock is easy, just goes in line with the brake lines and you run 1 wire to the ground and the other wire to a switch w/ 12V power. They also recommend a 5A in-line fuse between the line lock and the switch.

Um.... thats actually a fairly small snatch block from what I'm used to. I'll take a picture of the big one on my HEMMT Wrecker tomorrow, now thats a huge snatch. :D

Got some more little things wrapped up on it tonight.

Installed my second harness, yes I know its purple but for 30$ brand new in the box I wasn't going to complain.

I finished wiring up my cheap-arse 60$ LED rock lights. There are 8 total lights with 9 LED's per light. I got the entire setup for 60ish$ from JCWhitney. They're Anzo bed lights that are meant to run under the rails of a truck bed. I wired them into the wiring for the front side marker lights since I no longer had a fender for the side markers to mount to.

Then I bolted down a storage box in the back and proceeded to load it up with tools, recovery gear, fluids, parts, air hose, and other misc crap.

After that I made a a sweet little mounting setup for my spare long-side 14 bolt shaft

And I made 1 for the short-side shaft too.

I couldn't come up with a great way to mount my spare D60 shafts but since the u-joints in them are crap anyways I'll wait to get that figured out.

Well I guess I should update. Moab was great, but way too short for the money it costs to go out there. Next year I'm definitely staying for the entire EJS.
The group I was with decided to run Pritchett Canyon on saturday and I very shortly had an issue upon hitting the trail. My driver side hub didn't seem to want to engage properly. I quickly took the cap off and everything inside seemed to slide in and out properly. The spring inside the cap seemed a bit week so I swapped it with a spare and success, true 4wd.
We then continued up the trail until my neighbor stopped to check things out. For some reason his ARB's weren't engaging. We started looking things over and after some time realised that after 10yrs of use his compressor had finally bit the bullet. The "crank shaft" end had broken off of the motor shaft. He then turned around and headed into town to resolve the issue.
We then came to the first big off camber climb (I believe its called "Which Way"). As I was turning to approach the obstacle I popped a bead on the passenger side front tire. A little ratchet strap and ARB compressor action and the issue was resolved. However, because of this I decided to run higher air pressure (14psi) and this would cause other issues throughout the trail with traction. After the tire issue was resolved and we waited for an XJ to work its way down I made it up the obstacle with little issue.
I made it through "The Tube" and "Damen's Hot Tub" no problem and finally we got to Rocker Knocker. I had been watching YouTube videos of the line up it for a week and after watching the first of our rigs make it I gave it a shot. Much to my amazement I made it first time, it was awesome.
I then made it over Suicide Hill, this took a little bit of effort. Everytime I started to get up onto the hill at the bottom I would lose grip and the Jeep would start bouncing. After I got up and over that first ledge though it was all gravy.
Rockpile on the other hand...............

:D
After we got the Jeep back on its tires we decided to turn around and head back to the bottom of the trail. Unfortunately for me right after I made it down Suicide Hill my fuel pump decided it had had enough. We dragged the Jeep back over to Rocker Knocker and then hauled back into town. I missed O'Rileys by 10 minutes and we headed back that morning to replace the pump.

Overall the Jeep did well and I was really happy with the results of my first trail run in the newly assembled rig. The fuel pump was just crap luck, you can't really lan for that. It was the stock pump that came in the Jeep when I got it and I had hardly driven the thing in the last 1.5yrs I've owned it.
I definitely need beadlocks. The rims being 9" wide just don't provide that "poor-man's beadlock" effect that my 15x8's did when I was running 36x13.5 Iroks. Those I would go as low as 4psi and never pop a bead.
My super awesome square driveshaft caused issues. Where I had designed my belly pan to go up and over the driveshaft was to close and when coming down obstacles the shaft would hit it. I had designed it using a stock driveshaft to check for clearances (1.75" OD), and the 2.5" square tubing just didn't have room. I actually popped a front u-joint coming back down Which Way after getting the pump issue resolved. Since coming home I've sourced and stretched a stock YJ front shaft and it has plenty of room, I used my winch to suck the front suspension down until the axle was nearly against the frame and no binding.
Those little wraps around the leafsprings are important but hard to come by. I found 1 and have temporarily used hose clamps for the remaining springs. I had some issues with the leaves wanting to slide out of alignment.
But in the end my biggest issue was myself. I pretty much always had a relatively under geared and small tired rig and relied a lot on throttle and prayers to get over things. With the massive amount of gearing I have now its too easy to over throttle and get way too much wheel spin. I've got a major learning curve with this rig but its definitely nice to finally be able to wheel it. Oh yeah, and your front ARB doesnt do you an good if you forget to turn it on. :D
I'll get the pics from my neighbor and then post them up.

WTF!?!?!? Did somebody chop the Partridge Family bus???

HaHaa, no man that guy was actually from Greeley. He was near the head of the group on Sunday that was doing the official EJS Pritchett Canyon run. When we went back that day to put the new fuel pump in we got stuck behind them and I started hiking it past them. When I got to his rig we started talking and he offered me a ride the rest of the way. Nice guy, and definitely a different type of rig.

Got any more pics of THIS rig???? :D

Nope, Sorry Troy. I only got the one. I didn't take any pictures so all the ones I have were taken by other people.

Update:

I swapped out to some LED taillights and added in some reverse lights too. Once I get some 1" tube then I'll frame in the reverse lights.

I think the Durango is going to need air bags, I even moved the Jeep a few inches farther back than I normally do. I really want to weigh the Jeep too and see how heavy it is. I'm sure its a heavy pig.

Hey Dutch, wheelin with you can be hazardous........ that is the third time you have rolled yourself ..... :D

And?

Its all in the trails, and actually its the 4th time if you count when I flopped my neighbor's Jeep over on 21 Road.

Out of the 4 Jeeps in our group out in Moab 3 of us rolled/flopped. 1 (me) on Pritchett, and 2 on Green Day in area BFE.

Here is the one I watched as I was swapping out my fuel pump on top of Rocker Knocker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5YFMSoEoM0

And here is a guy in that same group that rolled over at Rock Pile on the same trail (same area I rolled over except I went on the right line and not there)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfEBZF0kvSY

You step into the big leagues and it quickly becomes a matter of "When I roll over" and no longer "If I roll over"

Hence the beffy cage I built into mine.

You've got a couple feet you can afford to move back on the trailer Dutch. It's still too far forward as you have it in the pic....... in my opinion.

Dutch, invest in one of these equalizer/stabilizer hitch set ups. Trust me. It made ALL the difference when a buddy of mine was towing his XJ on a 16' trailer behind a WJ. Helped the rear sit level and controlled the sway. He said he wishes he'd done it years ago.
