a MUST buy for jeepers with stock speakers

Hey guys,

I'm attempting to install my rear speakers today, and I've run into a bit of a problem: The factory wiring harness is different from the hookup on the actual Polk speaker. What do I need to do in order to hook it up?

You either need to order the connector harnesses from crutchfield or cut and splice the wires. You can find a wiring diagram online and just put a large and a small spade connector on the respective wires and plug it in. Its fairly simple.

Do you mean these connector harnesses:

Bear in mind this is the first time I've ever attempted to do anything like this, normally I just take it somewhere and pay someone who knows what they're doing, but this time I'd like to save some money and do it myself.

Yep, Those!

My only concern with those is that the black end is exactly what I already have hanging out of the speaker hole. Wouldn't I need the part that plugs into that, that is on my stock speaker?

Yeah that should be what they are. You may try calling their tech support. Those dudes know their stuff.

i ordered and used those exact pigtails in my '99 worked beautifully

That is what I did for my last speakers. Worked great and is a bit cheaper that those connectors. This time around I ran new wires 'cause I added an amp and instead of buying more connectors I just soldered the wires directly to the speakers. That was really cheap, and I only burned myself once :gee:.

Did your speakers come with screws because mine didn't. So I have no idea what size screw to get.

i thought i was missing mine, completely unpack them, mine were hiding with the one speaker tucked behind the cardboard packing material

Yep same here! That's exactly what happened with me! Thanks tho! Glad I'm not the only one who thought they were missing!

On another note, what's the best way to mount the rear speakers? I'm worried the 2 factory bolts won't hold it in place, and the speaker holes don't line up with the factory bolt places either...

I'm sorry for all the stupid newbie questions, it's just that I've never done this before but figured it couldn't be that hard...

I'm thinking I might need to go the slim series of these speakers...as I'm worried the front won't fit in the door grilles, and I'm not prepared to do any cutting... :(

But we will see when I get them installed...

For those of you who've installed your rear speakers yourself, how were you able to get the plastic mounting ring up under the headliner? I can't seem to get my headliner loose enough to put it under it...

the what? The foam gasket thing? If that's what you're talking about I put it between the speaker and whatever it's mounting to.

No, this thing:

It looks like it would fit under the headliner for the speaker to mount to...but I have no idea. My speakers didn't come with any install instructions and I haven't found anything online and I've done extensive searching...

that went straight in my trash can.
